Yes. Unreal how well they are playing considering our intent. The cream seems to be rising to the top.

The Cubbies were not going to keep playing at that level. They are also not going to keep losing either. As you well know, teams have their ups and downs in a long season. Still, really good teams limit the downs to 2 or 3 games and don't go on the 6 game losing streaks. Players go up and down too. Winn and WC couldn't buy a hit at the beginning of the season. Noot went stone cold and has now heated up. Burley is hot, but will it last...? Herrera hit .400 for 2 weeks. Gorman is hitting a little. Will Walker ever hit this season? Pallante was terrible for a stretch, but maybe he has righted his ship. So many ups and downs... Three teams are in the hunt for the central.... Reds are not terrible either. Should be an interesting rest of the season.

Nice to play the cubbies when both teams are in it! ... and take the first two of course. Quite the roller coaster ride last night!

Yes teams definitely go through ebbs and flows. I’ll point out that the Cubs made up a lot of their ground by beating up on terrible teams. Since late April they have played 10 series vs teams above .500, including this one. They’ve won 2 of them, both the Reds. They’ve lost 6, split 1 with Milwaukee, and are guaranteed to have at best split this series if not a 7th series loss. During the same time frame we’ve played 13 series against above .500 teams and won 9 series and lost 4 series.

They’ve played like 25 games vs bottom 6 teams in baseball, while we’ve only played 12 games against those same 6 teams.

That turns complete around between now and AS. We could be very close by the break.

I agree with your take. Still, they have a good manager and a lot of good players. They will most likely be in the race until the end. The Brewers.. smoke and mirrors as always, but they seem to find a way to be in the thick of it most years. So many ebbs and flows. Maton is unhittable now, but he will have a bad stretch most likely. Just how it goes. Leahy was really good, now sort of meh lately. JoJo put it back together. Helsley is always an adventure this season....

On another note, the Winn thread was just hilarious. You wonder if people watch the kid play every game.....? he steals an out or two every game with that arm on D. He just has the look of a winning ball player and he is just a kid. I want him as my SS for his prime. Sheesh... rant over.
