If he vetoes a trade to a World Series contender cause he wants to be close to Nashville , and since winning a World Series seems not to be a factor in his decision but he wants to pitch.Than I would suggest he go pitch for the Nashville Sounds. He can pitch and be close to Nashville. Now I am a fan of his and I like watching him pitch, but I will not understand if he don’t accept a trade.

Maybe he believes a moderately talented team that plays hard and has heart can actually win instead of the highest payroll team just being handed the trophy uncontested. The highest payroll doesn’t always win it all in baseball. His comments and on-field reactions seem to indicate he likes and believes in this team.

My opinion- 90% chance he pitches next year for the Cardinals-10% chance the Braves would want him and he would waive his NTC.

My suggestion for you is to find a grammar course, if such a thing is offered in Kentucky.

So far Gray has delivered about $46M in value and has been paid $22M by the Cardinals in 1.5 years.

He's owed $78M more but at his current pace will deliver about $77M more in value. Or the Cards could opt out of the last year and owe him only $53M more and he would be on pace to deliver about $46M more in value.

His trade value is negligible. He's getting paid a lot and is delivering a lot. Why do we want to deal him? To save money and get worse? No thanks.

We are looking for more good starting pitchers. He is a good starting pitcher; we should buy him again if he had a clone.

For some reason that would please a lot of people.

It defies logic, but so many posters here think they are BDW's financial planner.

My suggestion for Sonny Gray would be to continue pitching well and enjoy his time in St. Louis. Not that he needs that advice.

Just dont understand the point of this thread at all. The Cards are a good young team. Now 2.5 out of first place. Yet, for some reason, the OP is sitting in his hollow trying to find was to save BSW money, and add a few more single A suspects to the farm. I just dont get it what the OP has against Gray.

Well stated. This is a fun team to watch and has a chance to make the playoffs and maybe make a run. The Cards are going to lose Mikolas, Fedde, Matz and Helsley after this year to free agency. It is highly doubtful Roby or Mathews will be ready next year, so they likely need to acquire via trade a SP or sign one in free agency, likely a veteran. Get rid of Gray and now they need 2 SPs in 2026, which is not so easy to do. Albeit, my guess is the Cards take the easy way out and offer Mikolas a 20% pay cut on a 1 year deal in 2026. He likes it here and probably takes it.
