2027 lineup

Really going to be interesting to see how this looks. Donovan, Noot and Burleson still ARB eligible. Contreras and Arenado still under contract. Already having a challenge finding playing time for Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker. Have to get JJ Wetherholt in the lineup, and likely Saggese. Bernal should be ready at this time, Crooks could be a strong backup. Herrera seems destined for DH, and it really limits our lineup flexibility. Surely a trade has to happen at some point?
Right now with no trades, looking at:
Winn SS
Wetherholt 2B
Herrera DH
Donovan RF
Contreras 1B
Nootbaar LF
Arenado 3B
Bernal C
Scott CF
Bench:
Alec Burleson
Nolan Gorman
Jordan Walker
Thomas Saggese
Jimmy Crooks
HM: Josh Baez
Am I missing any main roster pieces? Does it really make sense to have our bench this strong, or will we need to make a trade or two and get a ROI on some of these guys? I'm a Gorman fan, but it's becoming more difficult to see a future with him.
If you keep everyone and don't re-sign Arenado/Contreras for 2028 things look better:
Winn SS
Wetherholt 2B
Herrera DH
Donovan RF
Burleson 1B
Bernal C
Saggese 3B
Nootbaar LF
Scott CF
Bench:
Gorman
Walker
Crooks
Baez
I think you trade one of Gorman/Walker and keep the rest for depth.

Winn's playing SS and CF?
now, that is some range
as far as the OF, flip noot and donny. like noot's arm in rf better
and if nado is gone, I believe they'll stick gorman at 3rd until he shows he can't
and yeah, trades are gonna happen

Arenado has already dropped off a lot the last couple years. By 2027, he may not be a full time regular anymore Especially when you consider hes not gonna be your future so theres no reason to make him full time starter if his ops is below .700 by that point.
Also nootbaar could be traded. Id also say walker and gorman arent givens for 2027 unless the start to pick things up. They will make room for burly somewhere if hes still hitting. They will need a bench spot for a backup cf cuz i dont think that by 2027 nootbar will be seen as an option there if hes still here.

I've spent some time thinking about 2026, I've spent some time thinking about 2028 (Earlier this year I had a thread titled 2028). I've spent almost no time thinking about 2027 because I am of the belief that little, to no, baseball will be played that year due to a work stoppage. Getting past 2027 gets us past Arendao, Contreras, and Gray's contracts. Donovan and Nootbaar will be free agents after the 2027 season, so the team will look different. If I'm looking past next season, 2028 is what I'm most focused on.
