Arenado quietly having a great season

On pace for 23 home runs and 89 RBIs while playing splendid defense again

The best part is that when he does hit that home run, it's usually late in the game at a time that we really need it to change the trajectory of the momentum to our side.

He's been a winning player, making winning plays on defense and at the plate all year. Nearly 70% of his home runs have come late to tie it, give us the lead or get us back to within 1 in a game we eventually won.

This seems to be lost on a lot of people that live and die by OPS, OPS+ without context. To those, I ask: Do you not watch the games? Do you only watch box scores after the fact?

It's really hard to believe fans actually would like to replace him with Gorman

You are attempting to define clutch.

What about leading the league or close, in pop outs, that seem to leave runners stranded.

His glove still plays.

He has had numerous key hits this season

You don't trade a superstar unless the deal sweeps you off your feet. He's been a superstar throughout his career. True enough that he's declined somewhat but he's still the best option at 3rd that the Cards have. I appreciate a guy that goes about his business as a professional, giving the young guys an example to follow. I wish he could get a ring.

A couple of big homers in just the last few games, not a superstar any longer yet still a very good player.

You’ve decided to convince yourself of an untrue narrative.

He’s hitting .216 with a .620 OPS and 12 RBI on the road
He’s hitting .206 with a .710 OPS w/ 2 outs and RISP
He’s hitting .220 with 4 HR in late & close situations

When they’re ahead, he has hit .230 with 4 HR and 13 RBI
When they’re behind, he has hit .232 with 4 HR and 13 RBI

He’s decidedly average.

Fans were only following the team’s lead. Our POBO spent all offseason trying to trade him. We were told it was key to the “reset.”

The irony here is that ownership and the front office kr@pped themselves repeatedly in Nov/Dec when it was clear preseason ticket sales were cratering. Trigger panic mode to slash payroll and trade Nado was the big one.

Unsuccessful in that so they were forced to keep him . Now he and others playing so well that in season ticket sales are up. So much so that they probably wouldn’t even trade Nado now for fear of team backsliding and attendance following suit.

Arenado has gotten some clutch hits lately- but a lot of clutch is random and small sample.size. do i believe arenado has become a worse.overall hitter but suddenly.more clutch than when he was a star hitter? Cuz thatd seem quite ridiculous to me.

Usually over greater period of time those stats will even out. He is playing great defense but avg hitter. Some of his hits lately have been clutch, but i dont think hes magically now more clutch than when he was putting up mvp stats and its just sample size.

And by that logic you just obviously only watched the last couple.weeks and first week of the season and not that stretch inbetween when he was doing so poorly he askedmto be moved down the order.

His.numbers.are basically on par with last year. Players go from clutch to unclutch year to year all the time
There are some instances of batters bearing down in certain situations but a lot of clutch is just random timing and lucl about whem the hits drop.

I've been waiting for someone to point this out.

Sure he's not the Rockies/Cardinal 2021-2023 NADO but this version, at a reduced salary and an advanced age, is definitely still an asset.

At a 99 OPS+ he's just under being a league average hitter and still brings elite (+4 DRS/+3 OAA) defense.

He's been doing is since Opening Day

HR #1: 8th inning, 4-3 Cardinals vs Twins. HR give Cardinals much needed breathing room. 5 - 3 W
HR #3: 9th Inning Walk-off vs Division Rival Brewers. 6-5 W
HR #6: 8th Inning, 4-4 vs Baltimore. HR gives Cardinals 5-4 lead and they win 7-4
HR #8: 8th Inning, Down 8-4 vs KC, 2-run homer gets Cardinals back in it 8-6. We score three more but lose a close one 10-9.
HR#10: 9th Inning, down 5-4, ties game with HR. Cards win in extras 6-5.

4/25: Top 8th inning, Cards lead 3-2. Tying run on 3rd, 1 out. Arenado makes incredible throw to plate to get the tying run out. Cards hang on 3-2. https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/video/phi ... al-frelick
5/23: Tied 1-1 in bottom 6th vs DBacks, Arenado triples home 3 runs and Cardinals win 4-3
5/24: Ties game in 8th inning with fielders' choice. Cards take lead 6-5. Arenado saves game in 9th with insane stop, preventing tying run from scoring off Helsley. https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/video/rya ... gurriel-jr

There are many more examples defensively. These are just the ones off the top of my head.

We aren't even half way through the season and almost 25% of out victories are due to Arenado's superstar knack at the most opportune moments.

I theorize, that if you actually watched the games... you would agree.

It's a shame for the box score readers. I enjoy watching a Hall of Fame player make HOF plays to win games. Kinda one of the primary reasons to watch.

Now tell me about POZO and his clutch hitting...

Great season?! LMAO. Average hitter who is having a solid season with RBI's only. Not a top 5 3b in the NL...He's Alec Bohm defensively. Move him if you can...
