Mariners up 1-0 over the Cubs this afternoon on Raleigh’s 28th HR of the season.
Edit: And then Happ homers to tie it for the Cubs. Gonna be a slugfest with wind blowing out.

Where tf did this version of Cal Raleigh come from? Is this just him peaking or did he find a new normal somehow?

I’d say peaking. I mean he had the most HRs by a catcher for their first 4 seasons in MLB history I think. At least I remember reading that on MLB last year. But it’s definitely at an even bigger level this year.

Sucks for him to share a league with Judge, otherwise he'd have a pretty good shot at MVP... although just checking and seeing that 2nd in bWAR is actually Houston SS Jeremy Pena, what is even going on this year
fWAR has Raleigh 2nd though, ahead of Witt and Pena.

Agreed, he's just having a career year.
Age 28 season and like you said, most HR by a catcher first four (full) seasons and counting (he'll blow past M. Pizza's first four full season total of 127).
And he signed a huge new deal this offseason $105/6 yrs so no real incentive to cheat (re: PEDs).

Cubs pull Matthew Boyd at 76 pitches after 5 innings and the Mariners tie it 4-4 in the 6th. Was Counsell switched out for Olipad?

Just passed Bench’s record for HR by a catcher before the ASB.

three run HR top of nine (not Raleigh, tho he was on base via single)
9-4 now Seattle
soon...a Cubs loss
7, 8 and 9 due up in bottom of 9

And former Cardinals Donovan Solano and Randy Arozarena are 6 for 9 with a walk for Seattle.
