Cardinals offense is better than the Cubs…versus starting pitchers

Cubs
Vs SP: .238/.305/.420/.724 OPS —- 162 runs
Vs RP: .275/.348/.457/.805 OPS —- 228 runs
Cardinals
Vs SP: .265/.335/.401/.736 OPS —- 190 runs
Vs RP: .244/.317/.381/.698 OPS —- 150 runs

So maybe a team should continue with their starter 3rd time thru the lineup rather than going to the pen. Risky but maybe better shot than pen guys.
When you have PCA and Tucker as dynamic duo supplemented by Hoerner, Swanson etc. you are facing tough offense going starters or relievers.

And they're a lot of high quality SP's in that Cardinals line, including last night where they handed Smith his worst loss of the season!
Hope Cards starters can go 7+ when we face the scrubbies.

Informative stats but I wonder about quality of comparison. With the way the schedule is today have they played similar pitching staffs? I know we are deep in in schedule but wondering about similar opponents and pitchers. With old schedule we would have played a more similar schedule I suspect.

I don’t know, but I know that…
- We gave
Shane Smith his worst loss of his season/career (he’s a rookie)
- We gave
Paul Skenes the most ER he’s ever had in a start.
- Scored 4 runs on
Zack Wheeler, which was one of 3 starts he’s had 3 or more ER in this season. The other 2 were Atlanta, so we’re the only team other than them to do that.
- Gave
Cole Ragans 2 of his worst starts of the season.
- Scored 4 runs on
MacKenzie Gore, which was 1 of 2 starts where he has given up more than 3 runs. The other 1 was 4 as well, so they were tied.
- Scored 7 runs on
Framber Valdez, his worst start of the season.

Dubbies outscore the Cards by 50 runs. 390 vs 340.
The hitting home - away splits are most likely telling as are they're H/A records
Dubbies - 24 - 12 (H) Cards - 22 - 14 (H)
21 - 16 (A) Cards - 16 - 21 (A)

So they play well on the road and score in late innings. Need a strategy. Starters go longer if possible.

Skubal rare non-quality start too. Didn’t exactly rock him but did better against him than most.
