.319/.405/.450 for an .855 OPS with 5 HR and 24 RBI in 41 games.

If this org was smart they already woulda been giving him OF reps so that he can be a Donovan-like super-ute guy and not just one more MI who is blocked at the MLB level. But it's never too late to start.

Could we see a trade to open up a spot for Saggese in the lineup? I've been critical of Mozeliak but that was a good trade.

Agree. There is far more opportunity for him as a RH batter in the St. Louis OF if he can transition to left field. Seems to me that he could easily handle the move, given the proper time to learn the position.

Right now, he is blocked at SS by Winn, 2B by Donovan and Gorman, 3B by Arenado and Gorman - plus JJ Wetherholt will soon be competing with him for these positions. He has played over 500 games as a professional, all on the infield, why not give him some instruction and playing time at the easier position of LF?

The useless Jose Barrero is J.A.G. and a waste of a roster spot.

Saggese can play multiple positions and any competent manager (ok, let's Oli out) could easily find him three starts a week plus some PHing opportunities.

I totally disagree Rock. We already have a game like yesterday where both Gorman and Walker were on the bench. If you put Saggese on the roster instead of Barrero it becomes an even bigger problem. There simply is no PT for him right now outside of like the very rare off day for Winn. With a JAG like Barrero it’s no problem, for a young kid with upside like Saggese that’s an issue.

Saggese is better off where he is at. Let Bloom get here and define roles instead of this daily dice game they're playing right now.

I am kind of between you two. When JW went down I would have brought up Saggese and put him at 2B and Donnie in LF. But then Donnie had the toe issue so he went down and you were short an OFer. As FGM said, not enough ABs to go around. Gorman is actually hitting now, but he is a stiff in the field. Herrera is your DH most days as he should be, but not a great defender at C. Pages is a decent C, but what little bat he had has gone cold. The problem with this team is they are at least one solid OFer short. Well, they have a LOT of other problems, but that is one of them. That and Donnie and Saggese are your best second basemen. Gorman and Herrera are not that great defensively. There is no really credible backup SS. Sure, Donnie or Saggese can fill in for a game or two, but if Winn goes down .... Barrero has not shown he can hit. He looks like he should be able to hit when standing at the plate, but that is about it. VSII is a slightly better hitter than Siani, but the league has figured him out. We shall see if he adjusts, but appears to have upside. Burley is hitting, but he is a defensive liability anywhere but 1B, where he appears to be adequate. WC is not a great catcher, hence he is now at 1B. Lots of pieces on this team, but your best offensive alignment hurts your D. JW... another enigma with potential. So you have all these moving parts, but your best defensive team is not your best offensive team and vice versa. The ball tends to find poor defenders at key times. Always has, and always will. It is difficult to out slug teams on a regular basis. Pitching and D.... The other problem is our esteemed manager has no clue how to ride hot players not named Burleson. When a guy is hot, he plays. Duh...... Sorry for the rant....carry on....

Saggese has had 26 home runs in 776 AAA plate appearances. Who do posters say he has less than average power?

A) Who said he had less than average power?
B) So about 20 HRs in 600 PAs… at a step below the MLB? That sounds like average power to me.

To me he projects to be Donovan. That is not a bad thing. High contact rate, high OBP, low K rate, 10-15 dingers a year. That plays in most lineups. I would much rather have these guys maximizing their OBP, than dropping 40 points in avg with more K's to try and hit more homers. That is not their role.

Also, the other night with runners on second and third and no outs, I want Donnie at the plate over anyone on the team. He would make contact most likely, and somehow score that runner from third.

He's not as good as Donovan, strikes out almost twice as much. But 90% of baseball isn't as good as Donovan's K-rate and Saggese can still be plenty serviceable as a utility or super utility player... i'd say definite 3-4 WAR potential.

He also strikes out 25% of his at bats.
