Other than homeruns, he’s a top three easy.

Would anyone be remotely close to talking about Nolan Gorman as an all-star at 2B?
Jackson Holliday: .259/.309/.423 256 PAs 11 2B 2 3B 8 HR 27 RBI 29 R 13 BB-60 K 1.1 bWAR (-0.2 dWAR/-3 DRS)
Nolan Gorman: .230/.322/.402 143 PAs 7 2B 1 3B 4 HR 17 RBI 17 R 18 BB-39 K 0.0 bWAR (-0.4 dWAR/-2 DRS)
Yet Holliday is 2nd in the AL in AS voting at 2B.

All Star game voting is akin to the People's Choice Awards or American Idol.

Growing up I would never miss an All Star Game.
And being a Cards fan I was an NL Guy!
But I have to admit my interest in the game has dwindled over the years.
Some due to Free Agency moving players between leagues.
But also the fan vote.
Now....I would NOT take the vote away from the fans.
It is after all still an exhibition game.
I also don’t remember players begging out the game due to injury etc.
Much more common now.

St. Louis fans don't care about All-Star Votes, and it shows!

Do you remember when the cards would send 2,3,4 or more players to the ASG? My, how the
Mighty have fallen.

St. Louis fans don't care about All-Star Votes
60 years ago men were men and voters knew their duty.

The all-star "game" is a publicity stunt.
Nothing more.
'Voting" reflects that.

People would rather watch the Home Run Derby on Monday.
If MLB said Tues. night would be 2nd night of HR derby fans would probably favor that too.

I think the players (maybe coaches too) did the voting back then. As I recall JJ was added as a replacement. Maybe another one as well. It was cool though seeing them as the starting NL infield. The All Star game was a really big deal back in those days.

Imagine Willie Mays and Hank Aaron not being named starters for the National League All Star team . Well I sure remember it . It was 1957 , I was 9 years old . Cincinnati had a newspaper ballots printed daily and was part of a Krogers sponsor promotion. Next to each position voting black , to the right was a list of each Cincinnati Redlegs team member .
Here is the story if you have not heard what happened .
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/131 ... r-team-too
Cardinals Stan Musial did win first base by a whisker but prior to final tally , the commissioner already announced that Musial would be at 1st over George Crowe , a replacement for injured Redlegs Ted Kluzinski .. (Stan hit .351 that year )
The Commissioner ruled that Willie Mays and Hank Aaron would get CF & Rf over Gus Bell and Wally Post of the Reds.
Ever since that fiasco when I was 9 years old, I despised fans voting for All Stars. Let the players, coaches, managers vote . They know who the very best players are .
I highly doubt if the above guys voted that Winn would be in 9th place in the NL.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/131 ... r-team-too
PS Even if you support computer voting by the fans , why in the heck are fans allowed to vote 5 times .. 5 ballots. Vote once !.. 1 vote per fan who wants to participate.
