Memphis Redbirds game 6/15

Did anyone here watch the Memphis game today? I watched to see Zach Plesac pitch for us today. He allowed 8 runs in three innings. No way all those runs should have been earned. Fermin screwed up two balls in left field and the infield botched a run down that led to quite a few runs being scored. As far as Memphis goes, McGreevy is awesome. Luken Baker is in his 5th YEAR with Memphis. Fermin looked lost in left field today. Sagesse should be in STL. Crooks should be our next catcher. Plesac has been hit around pretty good in his two appearances n Memphis but I still think he is as good as most of our middle relievers n STL. Thoughts?

"Sagesse should be in STL". Maybe after the trade deadline. And, what's going on with Nathan Church? His current BA is .425. Could Church make Nootbaar expendable at the trade deadline?

Hmmm Nathan Church. So someone stumbled on a player with a high BA. In 41 ABs he has a .417 average. A career 725 OPS in 4 years in minoe league ball. And he is suddenly replacing a major league player with a career 758 OPS in the majors. OK that makes sense.

If Church was hitting at a .125 instead of .425 you would have a better case. Church was hitting well at AA. Enough to get a promotion to AAA. I'm more impressed than you seem to be. And Nootbaar has been struggling, in case you haven't noticed. I value recent play.

I’m digging churches breakout year. Solid glove and good speed but probably a 4th outfielder. Just wish he was left handed. We have no start and glut of powerless good contact lefties.

Church has hit at every level and is working his way up the prospect list. He has speed, arm, and a special hit tool. I would have loved to see what he could have done today with one out in the 9th and men on 2d and 3d. Bet he would have gotten the bat on the ball. His power is limited, but he hits lines drives.

"I would have loved to see what he could have done today with one out in the 9th and men on 2d and 3d". That would have been interesting, indeed.

Church does hit left-handed. Were you trying to be sarcastic? Or did you really not know that he is a LH hitter?

Oops haha I meant I wish he wasn’t left handed.

Ok. Yeah, me too. Why so few RH hitting OFers in Cardinals system is a mystery to me. Baez and . . . way lower in the minors maybe Honeyman? . . .

I watched the game for a little bit just to see how well McGreevy was throwing and, after a tough 1st, he was dominant.
I think Leonardo Bernal will overtake Crooks as the Cards’ full time catcher. He does everything well.

No need to choose currently.
Especially when all the MLB catchers have warts.

I have to think they’re gonna trade some of the catching surplus. Just not Bernal.

they struck out last draft with Catchers... Campos can't hit and I think he can't handle a staff, and Kross will never stick at catcher. I think they will cut Chase Adkison around draft time (their usual organizational cut). There's quite a few Hispanic catchers that are pretty good receivers, masquerading as back ups in the org. They need playing time. Maikel Hernandez, Carlos Linarez, Loaiza (first name escapes me). If Graysen Tarlow wasn't hitting so well, I'd cut him, too.
Bernal, Crooks, Linarez, Sammy Hernandez....that's probably your catching depth...imo. If Bernal wasn't at Springfield, Linarez would be the starter.
I pray they move away from Campos sooner than later. He was drafted b/c the organization wanted to move towards having the catcher lower to the ground. He's short, so they thought, let's draft the #200 rated player in the 3rd round

....he's ahorrible receiver, the Peoria pitching staff is incredibly bad. Is that on him? Some of it. Sammy Hernandez had those pitchers shining in Palm Beach last year....now they suck all of the sudden.
I don't know if we would want to trade Crooks....yet
