4 game losing streak and a big 4 game set on the road against a division rival. This is where the stopper steps up and stops the bleeding and sets the tone for the series.

I’ve threaded before- difference between Ace and Stopper. Tonight we need a Stop. As we did the three previous games. To no avail. I think Gray leads team in stopped losing streaks.

While I agree a good outing for Gray is important , Sonny has absolutely no influence on how Cardinals score vs Brewers. Rookie Misiorowski makes his
debut. If Cardinal hitters don't hit the 6-7 high velocity pitcher, Sonny's performance could go for naught. Gray could allow just a couple runs in the game and the team still loses. Sure hope not but Cardinals 'bats' need to support Sonny Gray tonight.

You’re saying a team that has given up 5+ runs in 8 of their last 10 games and 9 of their last 12 isn’t influenced by the starting pitcher? Of the 2 of the last 10, 1 of those was started by Gray and of the 3 of the last 12 that wasn’t, 2 of those were started by Gray.

Yes, the SP influences it. Our starters for the most part lately have been atrocious. Our SP’s in June have the 4th worst ERA in baseball at 5.67. Gray has one start in June and it was 6.1 IP of shutout baseball. His last 2 starts he hasn’t given up a run. We are 6-0 in his last 6 starts and he has a 2.50 ERA over that time. Just one bad start (7 runs in 3.2 IP against the Phillies in the Gray-Nola game where we came back) during that time.

Our bats have been plenty good enough in June with an average of 4.4 runs per game. The problem is the pitching has given up 5.8 runs per game.

I know you like to put the influence on the Brewers, but it’s still the SP that has been putting us in the loss column more often than not lately. But, Gray has been doing his part, hope it continues.

So if the Cardinals don't score, they won't win? 8O

Anyway, I'll take my chances with Gray against a rook who throws hard. Throwing hard is a guarantee of nothing.

Gray's pitching performance is important not only to end the bleeding of losing streak but also setting a "tone" with the Brewers by winning on their home turf. This team currently has forgotten team play gets them wins. Singularly they can't beat the Little Sister of the Prairie convent team.

Secondly, the Dubs are playing the Pirates at home. They can ill afford to lose much ground against the Dubbies if the June 23 - 26 meeting is to have much meaning in winning the Central. Early but critical. Hoping the Dubbies regress is futile.

So far what I was afraid of.. Cards unable to hit the rook.
The kid has been dealing. No surprise based on what he did lately in Nashville.

Just can’t expect the guy to keep putting zeros when your offense is inept.
No margin for error.

No one said it had to be 0. 2-3 through at least 5 innings would have been just fine and still given us a chance.
