Interesting game today - Liberatore

Post by ScotchMIrish »

trying to bounce back from a 4 inning - 7 ER - 71 pitch start. On May 1 he had 3 inning start but bounced back nicely.

His standard 5 days of rest - will be interesting.

We need a Stop on the losing streak. That’s what Aces do. Gray leads team.

That s the bigger test in my opinion stopping a hot team, stopping a losing streak, stopping a sweep, and happy send off to Milwaukee.

Very important start.

Didn’t he get pulled from last start because of injury? I remember his replacement “got all the time he needed”….

Liberatore will be facing Eric Lauer, LHP who played in Korea last year. He had an OK career with the Pads and Brewers before that. This will be his third start for the Jays. He brings in a 2.08 ERA but it's more than 5 in his starts against the Rays and Tigers.

Yes it will be an interesting start. He’s had back to back bad outings and the last one he dealt with a “possible dead arm” issue supposedly. Toronto is also on fire offensively lately (not just our series) and hits LHP’s well (.268/.354/.415).

So he’ll probably go 6 IP 3 H 0 R 1 BB 8 K today

Sounds like the Redbirds might have to manufacture some runs. Think Marmol is up to the task?

I didn't listen to the game. If so maybe only a blister that has healed.

They had a Kong meeting with trainer. His velocity had cratered. They ended up taking him out. Reportedly was fatigue.

Libby pitched 86 innings last year mostly an inning or two at a time. He’s a couple starts away from that total now. This shouldn’t have been hard to see coming, but the Cardinals apparently had no plan for load management.

He pitched 126 innings in 2023 and almost 150 in 2022 and 124 in 2021. Does the arm change that much after one season when it was built up for years?

Nope

"Fatigue"

I think he's going thru a "dead arm" stage, he could get back to his early season dominate self soon........hopefully today!

Maybe if his arm is tired he depends on the curve much more. Or any hook. Seems dead arm would show up nor prominently on fast ball velocity, not anything hooking.

Unless there’s pain, different game.

Looking at guys like Smyly and Lorenzon that have gone from starter to pen and back…and knowing most teams stick to a 30 inning increase from the previous year - I would think 120-130 innings would have been the expectation for Linnh going into the season. But they’ve been pitching him like he was going to be able to give 160-180.

Interesting. He has been getting 5 days off between starts all season.
