Finally putting it together, crazy this is already his 5th year in the org.

Took him 2+ years to figure out Low-A, but seems like once he finally did last year he hasn't looked back.

Turns 22 in a few weeks. What a boost this would be for the org if he's big-league ready by the end of next year.

Anyone know how his defense looks?

Not sure how he is defensively, but wasn't the scouting report on him that he has an absolute canon of an arm?

He's killing it. Hard to believe he might be ready to promote to AAA before Chase Davis.

This is correct. I remember seeing him graded 70/80 on arm scouting scale.

I’m cautiously optimistic I was excited about him. I got excited about chase davis end of last season and beginning of this season hit hitting then he went into a tail spin but I hope he keeps it up

Besides the good arm, he couldn't be too bad defensively if they play him in CF every so often. He obviously has speed, as he is a pretty good base stealer, so, I would guess he is a good fielder. Unless he takes bad routes, or, has butter fingers, he can't be too bad. Either way, if he keeps hitting like he has, he'll play.

He’s a beast.

Not really a late bloomer. Super talented cold weather kid who was young when drafted. You don’t see anything near the caliber of pitching in the northeast to meaningfully prepare you for pro ball velocity and spin.

It is awesome to see him having success.

I think he can play center field but his size ultimately settles him in as a plus defender in a corner.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the new regime had a hand in fully developing Walker, Baez, and Davis.

At what point does he have to be added to the 40 man?

It's interesting- at this point Baez isn't even listed as a top 30 prospect for the Cardinals.

This offseason. Based on his performance thus far, he’s definitely back on the radar for future roster building. There’s no chance he could hang on someone’s big league roster in 2026, though. A 40-man add probably gets done but might be out of a complete abundance of caution.

I saw him a decent amount in Spring Training a few years ago - in in backfield games and OF drills. He has excellent speed and a very good arm and certainly looked very capable. I watch some MiLB games and again, he impresses me with his defense.
He steals a ton of bases (30, 29 and already 23) - he had a steal of third yesterday where the throw beat him and he wrapped his arm around the tag. He also hit two real bombs.
His HRs are usually with very good launch angle (some Moon shots).
He hits a lot of fly balls but many for HRs.
The rub against him was low batting average and a 33% strikeout ratio, but he’s dropped that K-rate 10% so far to more of league average (there are a ton of MiLB players with over 30% k-rates). He walks a little better than legal average so, with his speed that’s a big plus.
