JJ close to promotion ? Tearing cover off the ball

Wetherholt is hitting .313 / .432/ .473 with OPS of .905
In 42 games at Springfield, he has 10 doubles , 1 triple, 4 HR , 21 RBI , 7 SB , 2 CS
Was just named to MLB Pipeline 's Prospect Team of the Week

Sure sounds like Triple A promotion should be imminent . JJ has more than 60 at bats in AA than he had at High A Peoria last year.
Wetherholt now has 150 plate appearances at AA this year.
Jac Caglione had 175 appearances at AA and then promoted to AAA where he had 54 AB prior to the Royals bringing him up . Note: Royals were struggling offensively thus reason to bring him to The Show for Royals. Cards not in same situation by far.

If Wetherholt gets promoted to Memphis shortly, then we can see how he does with Triple AAA pitching for a few months. Like they did with Masyn Winn, the Cardinals could give him his 'cup of coffee' call up in September to give him a taste of The Show . As long he doesn't get more than 129 AB , I believe ? , his service time would be kept in tact for the Cardinals. So like Winn, the Cardinals can give JJ some exposure to the best pitching in the world this September. Then it will be Bloom's decision what he plans to do for 2026 with the Cardinals No. 1 prospect.

J.J. has never been to Peoria....professionally speaking. Maybe in his own time, he wanted a world famous Pork Tenderloin Sandwich?

I trust that the Cards know best on whether to promote him.
I’m psyched about him as a prospect.
Just hope they don’t rush him and it impacts him negatively.

A little context to the JJ Wetherholt to AAA debate, here is something I find noteworthy (30 games since returning from the flu)

First 20 games
.236/.349/.389 for a .738 OPS

Last 10 games
.412/.565/.588 for a 1.153 OPS

I need more than 10 games to make that decision

JJ turns 23 yrs old in September, there little need to worry about them "rushing him" w/his college experience.

If he's tearing up one level (AA: .313 .432 .473 .906 ), then move him to AAA in a couple weeks.

So glad Slo Mo is going to be gone, he'd have kept JJ in the minors for the next three years.

Yes, my bad as I took the stat from the article where the writer said he had more than 60 at bats at High A .. I should have caught his error and not repeated it in my post .. We all know he was at Palm Beach and skipped High A . thanks for catching it .

JJ will be the face of baseball.
That's my prediction.
He'll supplant Ohtani, Judge etc.
Just a matter of time.

3 years and now to your 4 years LOL If this keeps up, JJ may set a MLB record for most years in the minors by a No. 1 prospect. Poor guy would be 30 years old and be a rookie LMAO ... At least all would agree, 'they didn't rush the guy ! :D
