Listening on the radio. I guess he broke back on the base hit before the 3 run homer in the first. Mikolas is not Bob Gibson. Gibby would have glared at VS2 and then bowed his neck and struck out the next 2 batters.

Scott is hitting .237 with 17 steals. And mildly slumping. I can see an easy.250 hitter.
As for his D, who knows what he saw. I also thought most outfielders take a step or so back on balls hit right at them. They then adjust.
The adjustment part was lacking I’m thinking.

He looked better at the plate last night than he has in awhile. Nice line drive hit and drew a walk pretty comfortably.

IMO.....the guy is young and shows flashes of stardom. I'm willing to be patient with him.

Nice observations. Especially the walk.

His only time at Memphis he hit .210 with an OPS under .600.
Scott struggling to hit here in his rookie season is no surprise.

He started off well but has struggled as the league has thrown him a diet of offspeed breaking pitches. Let’s see how he adjusts.
Siani is not the answer.

Well, in game 7 of the 1968 WS, Flood slipped with 2 outs on a drive by Northrup that then turned into a triple scoring 2 runs. Gibson continued to give up more hits and runs that inning, and the Tigers behind Lolich win the game 4-1 I think.
Yes, Gibson was absolutely amazing, but also human at times, including right after Flood slipped on the Northrup drive.

Great memory. Point well taken. Touchet. Didn't Gibby have like 17 strikeouts in one of those games. Can't remember I was 9 years old. Hell, I'm lucky if I remember what I had for breakfast.

scott will likely not last last as a starting CF..his bat simply isnt good enough to play CF...a team cannot carry so many automatic outs in its lineup

I don't think Scott is defined by his bat right now. But, I do think that once they fix the hole in Davis' bat, he will have the fight of his life and probably lose.

nobody expected him to hit 350 but right now he is a guy with zero power hitting 230 and dropping

I was a junior in high school and I was at game one and game seven. The only WS games I've ever been to. Gibson did indeed strike out 17 Tigers in game one and broke Sandy Koufax's record of 15. Koufax was in the house working for NBC.
Game seven I was in the right center field bleachers, not far from where Flood was standing. It was getting late and the stadium had some shadows. Northrup's ball was a high fly that apparently Flood lost in the backdrop of the stadium. He didn't move and I thought he had a bead on it. He too late realized he had misjudged it and THEN he slipped turning. I still remember the big @ss divot that flew up from the turf.
The slip on the grass did not cause the triple, it was too late by then. The not seeing it, and/or the misjudging of it doomed the Cards.
Mike Shannon hit a two out solo home run in the bottom of the ninth. I like to think that in a parallel universe, that home run won a 1-0 shutout for Gibson and we bagged the 1968 World Series.

I was 7 that year and have only a few memories of the Series. Fortunately, none of game 7, but I do recall very fondly Lou Brock's lead off home run in game 4.
In game 7, Gibson retired the first 10 batters he faced before a Mickey Stanley single in the 4th. He then retired the next 10 batters. At that point, with 2 outs in the 7th inning, Gibson had pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing one hit, striking out 7, and walking none.
Then on consecutive pitches, Cash and Horton singled (Horton's barely eluding Maxvill at SS), and on the first pitch to Northrup he tripled over Flood to score 2 runs. Freehan then hit a bloop double to left center to score a third run, only Freehan's second hit of the Series.
Even though I didn't watch these events unfold, the 1968 Series haunts me!
