His walk rate really sucks this year. I haven’t seen him pitch yet since he’s come back, but looking at his numbers I’d stay away.

Yes, I'd more than consider it. I'd offer Gorman to the Marlins for Alcantara. Your turn. Thanks.

No, they aren't stupid.

have a great day

edit...actually both parties aren't that stupid. We're not taking on any money at this time. Taking on Alcantara's salary would be stupid. The Marlins would never want Gorman as a center piece

Sandy Alcantara: 7.89 ERA -1.4 bWAR
Zac Gallen: 5.15 ERA 0.4 bWAR
Adolis Garcia: .623 OPS 0.8 bWAR
Randy Arozarena: .730 OPS 1.8 bWAR
Cardinals 36-29 and coming off 2/3 from the Dodgers

Mo moving Girsch from GM to voo doo fixer is working with almost 100% accuracy

Good point. I never considered the salary aspect. However, if the Cardinals want to acquire a player that could truly move the needle. They might have to take on some salary to get that type player. Agree or disagree?

with what we're seeing now, he won't move the needle in 2026...the salary isn't much, but paying him $17million (I think) next season on a gamble....makes no sense. I'd rather use that money on something better...and I don't think it's the Cards intentions to compete next season, nor do they intend on committing money until after 2026/27 (Lockout looming).

Extending Donovan and Winn are probably their only priority.....Winn especially b/c he may price himself out in the next few seasons, and there's a great chance that 100-125 million is our new norm for payroll.

If the Cardinals medical staff examines Alcantara and deems him healthy. The Cardinals just might take that 17 mil chance. IMO. 17 million/yr ain't to bad for a possible ace. Consider what Gray will be raking in.

you can be declared healthy and still pitch like Garbage.

I think they'd prefer internal options next year.

Frankly, I see Roby as an Alcantara in the making when he was at the top of his game. And who knows about Mathews. So maybe you're right on the internal starting pitching and channeling the big bucks elsewhere.

Alcantara is paid $17mm this year and next. The Cardinals are facing declining attendance, a shifting media landscape, and an upcoming CBA. I don't see any big salary additions the next couple years. Bloom is here to bend the organization to more of a Tampa-like player development model with lower payroll. Maybe they sign a Gibson-type on a one year for innings and depth.

Declining attendence is the problem. Spending more on stars that attract higher attendance, not having a total bore as GM and manager, (and also winning) is the solution. Not sure Alcantra is the star they should be spending on though.

Further, we can develop like TB in the minors and still draw attendence with star players like Boston. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

I know it can take a little bit to refind yourself after Tommy John but there's always the chance the pitcher is never the same arm he once was. Alcantra looks like he might be damaged goods these days.

Sandy's statcast page is interesting. Velo and spin rate are pretty much all the way back, as is his movement.

The main difference appears to be his arm angle, which is 3-4 degrees lower than it was pre injury. Not sure if intentional to preserve arm health or accidental but it appears to be affecting his location, especially of his 4 seamer which now has less rise. Possibly affecting his command as well.
