He's a darn good hitter and a shockingly good fielding first baseman.

Stop with the logical rational analysis…..CT can’t handle it
“He will be an elite hitter at 33 because he’s been moved from catcher”….please repeat after me

Did anyone call him an elite hitter? I think he’s a very good hitter, I wouldn’t say he’s “elite”.

Well sure…all offseason…take the tools of ignorance off and watch the production sky rocket….so through 1/3 of the season he’s basically the guy he’s always been…..then no difference….now the mantra is he had a good 2-3 weeks and we’ll extrapolate that til the end of season

I agree he is basically who he has been in the past and his totals will probably be similar. What has surprised me is his defense and the way he hustles on every play. On most good teams he would be their #6 hitter, not the cleanup hitter.

A) The same guy he’s always been is an .828 OPS over the last 3 years prior to this year. People like you said he wasn’t any good because of his counting stats production. Which is why people like me said that’s because he played catcher and was more likely to get hurt there or have days off because of the position. Now being a 1B he’s played in 58 of our 62 games so far and the RBI production has already matched this year and is on pace for 90 or so RBI. He’ll probably finish at 20-25 HRs and 90-100 RBI IMO, which is better than Goldy last year.

B) It’s more than 2-3 good weeks. After the slow start he’s hitting .304 with an .861 OPS over his last 40 games. For the season he’s tied for 31st in RBI with Lindor, Brent Rooker, and ahead of players like Witt Jr., Harper, Mookie Betts, Matt Olson, etc.

He's a better 1B than he was a C and he's a better 1B than anyone else on the roster. So, even if he is the same hitter, the team is better with him at 1B.

The difference is that there's a really good chance he plays more than 113 games this year, which is his average amount as a catcher since COVID season.

Exactly! No one half way intelligent thought he would become a 1,000 OPS hitter because he moved to first. The move was about getting the .828 OPS for a couple hundred more at bats

And apparently a really fun interview after a walk-off win.

+1 goldfan likes to make things up. Contreras will be more productive in the end because he will play more games and stay healthier. He’s already driven in the same amount of runs as he did last season in fewer games and is more than half way to his total rbi his first season. I would say I don’t get how goldfan doesn’t get it but I do I get it

The interview showed a guy who gives an "F"! I loved it. Honestly, that is what I love the most about Contreras. He is passionate, and he cares! Th best veteran leader we have had since Yadi. His leadership is a huge part of this re-tool. The young players need a player like him around.

WillyC is a stud

Love how he told Mo, "No way" when asked to take the easy way out and bail on his teammates by waiving the NTC.

And his teammates love the dude, from Denton:

“I love the intensity that he brings and he’s as much of a bulldog out there as anyone I’ve ever played with,”

"His desire to win and the intensity he brings, it’s a good example to set for the young guys because they see how hard he works, how much he cares and how intense every at-bat is, whether we’re up by 10 or down by 10. He’s never giving anything away".
