In D. Goold's chat yesterday , Derrick was asked about the transistion timeline . DG replied :

His contract is up around the end of the World Series, so there's going to be a the official transfer of power in October or November -- ahead of that GM meetings. And he has even talked about Bloom being more prominent in August, September ... when it comes to making decisions as they go forward. He just brought that up on MLB Network. Mozeliak says he has a date in mind for his last official day with the Cardinals in his role, and they he and ownership have discussed what that looks like, but Bloom taking the wheel will happen in the lead up to that date, according to all parties involved when I last asked.


So while the 'official' date is one thing, in actuality Bloom will be prominent in August/September for decision making.
I am waiting once season concludes how quickly Bloom names his GM. One would think that Rob Cerfolio would be the prime candidate .
Will be interesting in the 2026 season, who will be the 'outfront' guy for interviews in some games. Would it be Bloom the POBO OR would the new GM (Cerfolio if selected ? ) be the one in the booth talking to Chip or in the dugout being interviewed by Jimmy the Cat.
Bloom will dictate who he wants to be that guy .. himself or his GM on TV

I always felt BDWJr would want C. Bloom making the decisions around the trading deadline since this will be his team going forward.

Made no sense to have Mo, other than in an advisory role, making future roster decisions that would affect the team after 2025.

Smart move handing the reins to Bloom earlier rather than waiting for seasons end.

I would sure feel better if I knew he was going to play a super-prominent role in July. I don't think Bloom is bolder, or less risk-averse than Mozeliak. The people in Boston were largely exasperated by his deliberate pace. The benefits of Bloom having a big voice at the deadline are that I think he is a MUCH better talent evaluator, and it seems like he surrounds himself with smart people and listens to them. Up until the hiring of Bloom, Mo has not.

That "deliberate pace" was mainly due to the restraints BoSox ownership put on payroll (and made him deal away players) almost immediately after his hire.

Mo isn’t making decisions now. You don’t have your replacement on board, and lame duck him for a year, and then tell him to live with that years actions.

Bloom is probably in charge.

I imagine he's been really busy repairing the broken the minor league system since his hire.

But w/R. Cerfolio now in place he's probably got time to focus on the major league roster prior to the trading deadline.

Bloom's ex-team the Red Sox are 4 games under .500. Bloom finished last 3 times with the Sox.

The Cardinals have produced several starters from their draft picks and 1 international FA in Herrera. We have more talent on the way. Bloom didn't do well and it shows 2 years later with the Red Sox.
