Winn - terrible effort today. Not like him at all.

Slowly jogged to 1b TWICE.
Mentally checked out and forget to cover 2b (just as N/A forgot to cover 3b) on a comebacker.
Dropped or missed two easily managed throws.
Lazy, lazy day on the field.
That's not like him to do.

I hated Brandon Crawford last year but maybe Winn and his back need some days off here and there. Barrero is fixed on the bench.

Either hurting, or needs a day off.

Could be he is hurting or sore. He didn’t play well today.

It’s been a long road trip. They all need a day off, and they’ll get it tomorrow.

Everyone has a bad day at the office once in a blue moon.

A bad day and a lazy day are not the same thing.

A runner slowly running to 1st base is a lack of effort . or lazy as some term it .
The play where he didn't get to 2nd base was not a lack of effort . Looking at the replay on TV from the high angle, the Cards anticipated the bunt .
The plan was for Winn to go to 3rd base if Nado fields the ball. Replay shows Winn taking a few quick steps to 3rd..as ball is batted to the pitcher , Winn puts on the brakes and retreats quickly toward 2nd ( figuring Nado runs back to 3rd as the pitcher is now fielding the ball.
Winn can't back to 2nd in time. So not a 'lazy' play but the execution failed. Acutally Donovan was the guy who made the poor decision on that play. He didn't go to 1st to cover with Contreras crashing home from 1st and he didn't go to 2nd either.
The ball thrown to him that went under his glove was not a lazy play either. it was poor execution in catching it. Lazy to me means poor effort.
Not all his miscues today were lack of effort IMO As I said , not hustling running is definitely lack of effort . Errors in fielding are poor positioning with the feet , legs, glove etc. That's when you boot balls once in a while not because your effort was poor.

They had a day off before the series started

Judging by your posts here, you would certainly be familiar with a lazy day.

I know how incredibly insane. I mean aren't these players supposed to be robots that are never stressed or not feeling right. I mean surely no one ever has off days at their jobs or feel lazy and doesn't work hard for some reason. Surely anyone who had the talent and was grateful enough to make the money they do would never take a play off. I couldn't imagine ever getting tired or fatigued mentally or physically throughout 162 games of traveling and not being around friends and family. What a bunch of spoiled entitled people to not play hard all the time. There are zero excuses when you get paid so well. I mean people that have real jobs are looking to you and you are being an absolute failure in life you aren't always doing your best. It's embarrassing to the fans that work so hard and have real jobs that require actual skills.

Not sure they heard you, but you are absolutely correct. They were anticipating a bunt. Winn was racing to 3d base with Arenado approaching the plate. Donovan was racing to 1B as Willson was halfway home. The only play was to 1B, but by the team Leahy realized he couldn’t go to 2B, he was late for 1B.
Weird play but there was NO laziness. Just a bad break.

Not saying this in Winn's case but to add to some of your points. Fans generally assume that players go out there each day feeling 100% and rarin to go . Like others in this world, they catch a cold, get some stomach flu.. With the sliding, diving for balls etc. they get bumps, bruises, etc. . Despite those they generally tough it out and play their best. Just like peolpe who do physical work and they tough it out too. If we were in the clubhouses, trainers room , we would probably get a surprising view of all the treatments, massages, muscle stim , etc. that to get them as ready as possible . Oops almost forgot taking a 90+mph fastball to your body (no pads on ) in the batters box. Imagine how you feel the next day when someone nailed you with a baseball like that.
While football has many more collisons than baseball .. remember a video piece on RB Marshall Faulk. Said after a game of running , getting tackled etc. he would start out the week with work on his bod from the trainers, go to a chiropractor for adjustments, then a massage therapist for treatment, sometimes orthopedic doctor too. Get daily treatments from all of those during the 7 day period leading up to the next game . Then go out there , run the ball /catch it get pummeled by those big guys for another 60 min. game and do it all over again to get on the field for the following Sunday.

Folks ready to put a 'lazy' and 'dogging it' jacket on the possibly the franchise's cornerstone player for the next decade for a tough weekend. SMDH.
