As long as the Cardinals are still in the race. And as long as he bats sixth in the lineup.

This, after you’ve relentlessly spammed the forum for months with “Arenado trade” threads?!?!

No, they don't. His defense isn't any better/worse, important/unimportant than when all the trade discussions began. There are other people who could play 3B. It would be okay. It's also okay if he stays. He is a very good third baseman.

Arenado is playing at a Gold Glove level this season. It's nice to have him at 3B, Winn at SS and Donovan at 2B. Especially late, in a tight game.

I know who the players are, and I acknowledge that he personally, and them as a group, are very good. It's just an unnecessary leap to say that we "have" to keep him. We might be surprised how little drop off the Cardinals would experience as a team if he is moved. He is good, he is not immovable.

The proper long range baseball move is to trade him and play Gorman everyday

No matter what the Cardinals might "want" to do, trading Arenado seems like it is becoming a moot point. Who is going to trade for him? It seems the Yankees aren't interested. Because of their luxury tax situation, they would, in effect, end up paying double his salary to have him. For a time, I thought the Dodgers were a good fit, but Muncy is hitting better, Arenado has trailed off at the plate, and the Dodgers have the same luxury tax situation as the Yankees. The only team I can see right now with a need and probably the willingness to take on a fair amount of his salary is the Tigers. I would be surprised if Arenado would waive his NTC to go there. If it's all about the winning, he should- the Tigers are really good, their farm system is stacked, their payroll situation is good, and the AL is wide open. Now, if he just doesn't want to locate to Detroit, I totally get that.

His defense does not make up for his now anemic bat.

Uh no....as much as I like Arenado for his defense you certainly do NOT HAVE to keep him.
The NTC is of course a major factor.
His contract does get cheaper but if you get a fair return I’d move him!

His defense does not warrant his salary nor offset his lame batting.
I would love to dump him

He’s not even a gg finalist if the season ended today. 4th behind Hayes, McMahon and chapman

Perhaps we could get permission from Shady to change the thread title to read: "Almost have to keep Arenado this season because the Cardinals would never eat enough money to make him a desirable trade target". What do you think Shady?

Arenado salary/production ratio does make him very tough to move. That combined with NTC to open up more possibilities.

He’s made himself untradeable

Hopefully they don't wait until Gorman is untradeable also. If we have Arenado for 2 more seasons, he WILL be the 3B. If we hang on to Donovan, Gorman, Sagesse, Winn, and Wetherholt during that time as well, that will get really stagnant. Gorman and Sagesse will lose playing time and trade value while their service clocks continue to run. Some of the trades at the deadline will be more about roster/asset management than being a "buyer" or a "seller".
