Time to send Pallante down & recall McGreevy

I'd send A. Pallante to Memphis today and recall M. McGreevy (6-1/3.02 ERA/9.6 SO9 at Memphis).
Pallante last 8 starts:
4.96 ERA
4.86 FiP
1.48 WHiP
And once again
he can't get out RHH'ers:
.287 .359 .452 .812
Not sure why Mo is sticking w/him and not giving McGreevy his shot.
Stupid to keep running Pallante out there to get clobbered when you have McGreevy on the runway and ready to land in St. Louis if he was just given his shot.
Just like he did sticking w/R. Fernandez for too long, Mo is once again AWOL.
Wake up Mo!
Send Pallante to Memphis and recall McGreevy.

No. He’s a Road Warrior. He wins on the road. Team is 4-3 in his SEVEN starts on the road. Need guys like this. If he don’t walk people he’s good. Mikolas is holding McG spot.

Not hardly BDog,
He's more like Road Kill!
McGreevy's the better option.

I wouldn’t.
Last 4 starts: 3.51 ERA team is 3-1 in those 4 starts. 21 K-7 BB in 25.2 IP.
He actually has gone 7+ innings more times than any of our SPs.
1. Pallante: 3
T2. Gray- 2
T2. Libby- 2
4. Fedde- 1
5. Mikolas- 0
McGreevy is ready, but I’m not sure there is anyone that deserves to be sent down or out of the rotation at this point.

Not the way to do business- send a guy down who is doing his job. Through attrition and performance McG will get his. Not this way.
And his starts have been against good teams in rough locations.

Pallante has been pounded by RHH'ers (.287 .359 .452 .812), this was his problem before 2024 as well and it's back!
Managers are going to start stacking their lineups w/RHH'ers.
I don't see him being a vital part of the future rotation, especially if McGreevy could be better.
I make the move and hope he figures out how to get RHH'ers out again.

But he's not doing the job, a 4.96 ERA over his last 8 starts is terrible.
Just because the offense has bailed him out five times doesn't mean he's "doing his job".
I'd send him down........hope he figures things out vs RHHers like he did last season when he went down......then if he's fixed his issues he'd be ready for recall if/when they deal Fedde (and or Mikolas if he'd waive).

It's time to call McGreevy up to be the 6th man after Mondays off day.
Everything else will sort itself out. If McGreevy asserts himself then I'd say Fedde or Mikolas or both become redundant by the trading deadline.
They all may be the same kind of pitch-to-contact type of pitcher. Pallante can get LH hitters out and has longer club control. He's not the one going.

They should be unloading Mikolas and Fedde as soon as possible, and can bring McGreevy up then. Hope they don't wait until the deadline, two months away. I know it takes two to make the trade, but surely some team will want to get ahead of the deadline frenzy, no?

He's been up and down, the last two were dicey but the ones before that were quality. Keep rolling him out there, I say. Let him work through it and grow, with MLB hitters.

If you want McGreevy, the right move is still for him to take Mikolas' place.

This.
Did I hear correctly the Cards only have 2 scheduled days off in June?
If so, going with a 6 man rotation thru that stretch would seem prudent, and like RunSup referred to, maybe one of Miko make themselves prime candidates to be traded off before the deadline.

My guess would be the Cards are hoping that one, or both, of McGreevy and Mathews are pitching great at AAA come trade deadline, and that they can move at least one(preferably 2) of Mikolas, Fedde and Matz for prospects. Maybe even before the trade deadline, if possible, depending on the return. If McGreevy and Mathews are pitching well enough, it wouldn't really be punting the season for prospects, which will be important if we are still a playoff bound team. A rotation of Gray, Liberatore, Pallante, McGreevy and Mathews would still have a chance to be good in the playoffs, and, if they don't move on from Matz, he can pick up any slack for starting pitcher underperformance, as he has been all year.
They could also afford to part ways with one of Gorman or Burleson, if it would bring back a good enough prospect. I really don't care if they don't move any of the players, if they feel they will help them win this season. However, it really seems like a necessity to move at least one of the starting pitchers for McGreevy, as I feel keeping him in AAA too much longer is going to have more of a negative affect than a positive one. My guess on how the trade scenario would go down would be getting quality prospects for one of Mikolas or Fedde, as well as for Gorman if the return is good enough.
Just hate to get nothing for Mikolas and Fedde when surely one of McGreevy or Mathews can fill their shoes.

If I understand this correctly, we have a starting pitcher who through his first four starts had an ERA of 3.22 in 22.1 innings pitched. Then he had three games in which he had an ERA of 7.24 in 13.2 innings pitched. Since that time he's had an ERA of 3.51 in 25.2 innings pitched.
....so we need to send him down.
I have always advocated for 4,000 rosters moves in a season because we would get to see a lot of players that way.

He has a 4.34 ERA in 5 May starts, averaging nearly 6 innings a start.
Not great. But not demotion material.
