Most people look at the wild card as a losers last chance. A break. A mulligan.

Me . I look at it like a tournament where anything can happen.

I think in 2006 the Cards 83-79 regular season record won the NLC division.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑28 May 2025 07:21 am2006.JDW wrote: ↑28 May 2025 07:19 am2011 says Hi.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑28 May 2025 07:18 amMost people look at the wild card as a losers last chance. A break. A mulligan.

I was referring to anything can happen. Beat Mets, then Tigers. Both series underdogs, especially the Mets.JDW wrote: ↑28 May 2025 07:22 amI think in 2006 the Cards 83-79 regular season record won the NLC division.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑28 May 2025 07:21 am2006.JDW wrote: ↑28 May 2025 07:19 am2011 says Hi.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑28 May 2025 07:18 amMost people look at the wild card as a losers last chance. Yes, I now have my very own star in the skyBrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑28 May 2025 09:27 am I called the Cardinals ticket office to order my playoff tickets but was put on perpetual hold. Anyone else have better luck?
In the past 10 full seasons, division winners have made it to the World Series 3 times more often than wild card teams. Can it be done? Yes. The odds are poor.imyourhuckleberry wrote: ↑28 May 2025 12:21 pm It's very much a tournament. Every league has wildcards. Baseball was just slower than the rest to implement and expand them. NCAA (which at this point are just lower-level pro leagues) have wildcards too and we consider it great.
The "purists" are the minority. Wildcards aren't a dirty word.
Get healthy. Get hot. Get in. Make your run. No one cares about or remembers division championships if they don't come with a league pennant and\or world series title.
Doesn't change a thing I wrote. I never said it was an easy path. Just that no one cares what route the WS teams took to get there. Only that they're the last two teams standing. Just like every other league.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑28 May 2025 12:27 pmIn the past 10 full seasons, division winners have made it to the World Series 3 times more often than wild card teams. What you say is true- it's just not a great plan if your plan is to go far. Interested to see if the new front office does more planning, or more hoping.imyourhuckleberry wrote: ↑28 May 2025 12:32 pmDoesn't change a thing I wrote. I never said it was an easy path. What you say is also correct. It isn't the best plan. However, I believe most teams, who aren't in a committed re-build (or say, the A's or Pirates) do a combination of what they think can win their division and works for their business model (ie. don't have the resources of the dodgers\mets\yankees). We, as fans, don't have to agree with what they do. Doesn't necessarily make them wrong.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑28 May 2025 12:35 pmWhat you say is true- it's just not a great plan if your plan is to go far. That's odd . When I called for playoff tickets , the guy told me I can guarantee you 2 box seats today behind home plate to all playoff games if you pre-pay for 2 season tix (box seats only ) for 2026 season. Offer only good thru me on this call . Would you like a minute to think about it sir ?BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑28 May 2025 09:27 am I called the Cardinals ticket office to order my playoff tickets but was put on perpetual hold.
