Couple of notes regarding Herrera....

1. Is it a coincidence this team took off when he returned to the lineup? Me thinks the answer is no.
2. For varying & inexplicable reasons some guys don't hit as well when they DH, yet Herrera does just fine.
3. With Pages/Pozo and Crooks/Bernal in the pipeline, I never wish to see Herrera behind the plate ever again. He could be a dominant DH for the next decade.
4. Was his injury a blessing in disguise? It gave the team an opportunity to see what the Pages/Pozo tandem could do and expedited the Herrera move to DH.
5. Which ex-catcher will lead Birds in RBI in 2025? Herrera or Contreras? May come down to who can get healthy and remain healthy...

4- good thought. Maybe.

Questions cannot be notes? That's preposterous.
Have you ever planned an outdoor barbecue and while jotting down your notes wrote something like "Potato Salad or Baked Beans?"? "Maybe Both?"
My case notes over the years were filled with questions.
In other words, "notes" can be either statements or questions.

So just extrapolating Herrera's current pace out to 552 AB's, and yes, it's not a reasonable pace, it's just for fun.
So currently Herrera has 69 AB's, so just taking everything times 8.
552 AB's, 136 runs, 48 doubles, 40 HR's and 200 RBI's. Hack Wilson might be 6' under, but he just blinked.
Amazing what a .391/.463/.696/1.159 slash line might be able to do over the course of the season.
But that's impossible, right? Ok, so let's be sane and just take 80% of that production.
.312/.370/.556/.927. Yeah, that works, lol.

Just curious....assuming full health for the remainder of the season and with the time already missed...Is 552 ABs even possible for Herrera in 2025?

Is Herrera's future simply as a DH and maybe part time catcher or some other position? The Cards offense sure improved when Herrera returned to the lineup.

Cards are 16-4 since May 4. That day we swept the Mets. Herrera was back about when.

Yes. Maybe LF someday. Maybe first base someday. But his catching days should be over. He's not good defensively and his bat needs to be there every night.
And it's made easier with the catching depth in the organization.

Exactly. 1B or LF if no DH. His at bats are the first must see TV since Pujols. You make sure you see them. Can he maintain this or is this like Flaherty channeling Gibby for that half season. We shall see. It is sure fun to watch though. What I enjoy is that he is a good situational hitter. He knows with two strikes to poke the ball through the drawn in infield and plate the runner from third. Too often you see guys with some pop in their bats sell out for power. MCarp went from an insane doubles hitter to trying to yank everything into the bleachers. Winn was in that slump because he was trying to hit a 5 run homer all the time. He stopped that and started hitting again. Herrera puts the ball in play. Hard. Like Donnie with more power. Putting those two back to back in the lineup is where I would keep them.

Does he need to be anything else? Why does he need to play the field at all?

This is the part of the reset no one sees. Sustainability. It is designed to see is ML quality, who can endure the grind, through in a possible playoff race, just want you want to see moving forward. Part of the off-season assessment.

I want a lineup full of guys who put the ball in play and don't strike out. Most of them will only hit 10 dingers a year. Fine. A couple of guys in the middle can hit 20-30. Drives pitchers crazy. No easy innings and they often throw 90 pitches by the end of the 5th. You do that to a team and by the third game of the series they have run through their pen. Cardinals are almost there. Even Pages, though not a great hitter, does seem to rise the occasion. We are almost there. Hererra is playing like he will be the guy right in the middle of that lineup. Let's hope he can keep it up and this is not a flash in the pan. Sure fun to watch!
