Pages is taking away Walker and Gorman runway. Sure which Herrera could catch. He’s a huge bat at catcher.

LoL. No...just no.

His OPS+ is 50% greater and doesn't play either of their positions.

Neither of those slugs deserve a spot once game 60, or so, comes around and they still suck

I’m wondering if they are concerned about Herreras knee. Have to have his bat in the line up so they are playing it safe with him. I get what you are saying though. I would rather have Walker, Gorman or Burly in the line up instead of Pages.

Or maybe it’s because Ivan can’t throw anyone out…
He’s 0-7 this year and 6/73 or 8% career.
Negative in blocking as well.

Yeah, pitchers love it when every hit they give up becomes a runner in scoring position. Besides, Pages showed some decent hitting in the minors, not Herrera, but better than a young Molina. Maybe they are giving HIM a chance.

No, he sucks at catching
Teams run rampant because he can't throw out runners.

Herrera appears to be a prototypical DH. They need to spell Pages with Pozo but really Pages does a great job with the pitchers and I wouldn't upset that cart at all. A catcher's job handling the pitchers is the number 1 priority.

Pages is the backup catcher. They're not required to hit. It's nice when they do but that's not their job.

Yep, Pages is doing a fine job in his current role. The Cardinals look to have C depth coming up in the milb. Instead of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, start the process of IH getting some work at different positions and try to find him a good fit. If it ends up DH is his best fit, ok, looks like his bat is legit.
Somewhat similar to Contreras with a lot of differences (contradiction alert), the Cards need to move forward with how they utilize Herrera. Looks like that process has already started, and I commend them for that.

By my count the Cardinals are 9-4 since Herrera got off the IL on May 9th. I think he has caught only 1 game ( loss).

I think Pages is passable offensively for a catcher. He's a sub 0.700 OPS kind of guy (at least for now), but he's had quite a few clutch hits. His OPS with RISP is 0.859 and has 17 RBIS in those 35 ABs. He gives you a chance, IMO.

I like Pages at the plate better than Gorman or Walker ATM.

I guess Herrera just isn't going to be an MLB catcher. 67 steals allowed in 73 attempts is pretty poor. But, lower A-ball stats were good. His AA and AAA arm stats were about average. Is he a bad catcher? I don't know.

Hererra is NOT A CATCHER!

Let me repeat:

HERRRA IS NOT A CATCHER!

He's a fantastic option to be the FULL TIME DH.

The Cardinals have a plethora of catchers in the system, their cup runeth over w/outstanding catching prospects!

Hererra is a great hitter, the absolute definition of a DH given his catching shortcomings.

NO MORE calls for him to catch. :x

Are you saying- one, Herrera is a great hitter; two, we have filled the DH slot adequately.
