Cerfolio big hire under the radar by fans

Would guess if you asked 100 random Cardinal fans at a Busch Stadium home game who Rob Cerfolio is , very few would have a clue ! .. A lot would respond Rob who ? Never heard of the guy .. Is he in Memphis or Springfield ?
Cerfolio was the first guy hired by Chaim Bloom and he already has impacted the Cardinals organization in a major way
.
Cerfolio was hired away from the Guardians to be St. Louis’ new assistant general manager for player development and player performance -- a wide-ranging role that has him working with current Cardinals Brendan Donovan, Matthew Liberatore and Gordon Graceffo and Minor League pitcher Matt Svanson one day, or budding baby Birds such as Quinn Mathews, Tekoah Roby or rapidly blossoming 18-year-old catcher Rainiel Rodriguez the next.
He likes to stay in the bacground doing his work . He sits in the stands at home games not in the suites.
This Yale grad is very smart. Two parents in medical field and he was considering pre-med himself.
Working in the background, where he prefers to operate while studying reams of biomechanical data, analyzing pitching arm angles and hitter swing paths and load profiles, Rob Cerfolio has emerged as a key contributor to a Cardinals club that continues to surprise because of the many promising gains made by various players.
Thought you would like to know what he has done thus far .

and does he get some of the credit for those guys succeeding . Donovan never hit in 2024 like he did this year. Noot seems more constent too.
In reading the article, this guy sound very good in analysis . He is one smart cookie. No wonder Bloom tried to hire him once before when with Boston and now Bloom was able to lure him away from the Guardians. Look at the turnaround the Guardians have made.. Cerfolio gets a lot of praise for developing their system .
Glad he is with Cardinals now.

Bloom has put a lot of very talented guys in positions to make a difference in the Cardinals. Cerfolio has a track record of doing well.

Rob Cerfolio, Matt Pierpont, Larry Day, and Chaim Bloom are the reasons why I am optimistic about Cardinal baseball going forward. They are good talent evaluators. They seem to be able to blend the bean counter/analytics aspects of the job while still coming across as "baseball people". That has been lacking. They also seem more collaborative. Who has Mo collaborated with? Girsch? They have been very stubborn about their model and surrounded themselves with "yes" men to implement it. A departure from that approach will yield immediate, and massive results. Already is.

Well, Donovan had a .360/.420/.551 September last year. Maybe it’s just a continuation of what was clicking for him then?
And Nootbaar is who he always has been.
Career: .246/.349/.424 115 OPS+
2025: .251/.356/.414 115 OPS+

Shame on him for trying so hard for some and refusing to work with others.

Nice OP! I want to learn all I can about the Cards inner workings.
That is what you took away from reading that article? That he refuses to work with some players?

Sorry. It’s hard to tell around here any more. So much outrage.

I've been surprised that more people haven't commented on the hiring and work of Cerfolio et al. These additions are at least as important as the breakouts from Liberatore and Scott. We will see new things and get some new results. A big deal.

A excerpt for those without subscription:
After meeting with Cerfolio and implementing suggested changes for Graceffo
“ That fastball that touched 96 and averaged 93.4 at Fenway roared 96.5 avg in Cincinnati. It touched 98.9.”
Good callout OP.
