I think the idea the Cards are banking on a RHP long reliever as the 2nd pitcher....much like on Monday night. The 2nd pitcher was a RHP.

by the time they get to Gorman's spot in the line up, the hope is the Opener won't be in the game

Bullpen game, so SP is kind of meaningless. Batting 7th there is a chance the SP isn’t even in the game anymore.
