Is it just me or were the Cards Stupid for letting Wacha and Lynn walk?

Could have been a much better scenario.
They gambled on these two and lost as well.
Lot of major mistakes by Mo.

Likely didn't want to pay them, plus Lynn underwent TJ and missed time, also Wacha had thoracic outlet problems for a few years and wasn't as good as he is right now. Lynn was good for the most part when healthy.

When they originally let him go as free agent several years ago I thought that was a huge mistake.

I can’t second guess the Wacha deal.

Wacha was horrible for 3 years before emerging again in 2022. He got demoted from the rotation temporarilymhis last year with us. People woulda cried bloody.murder if we resigned him and dealt with bad years in 2020 and 2021

Heck, before his good half season for us in 2018, he had a bad and mediocre year in 2016 and 2017. One half season in 2018 is the only year he had a sub 4 era from 2016-2021

Embarassing short attention span strikes again. Did you even look at any of his career and progression or just look and see hes good now and pitched good against us today?

Everyone decect that we draft should be Cardinals for life, as well as all the good players we can acquire that were drafted by cheap teams that don't want to pay them. Be Greedy.

If I were the guy calling the shots back when Wacha's time was up here, I can't say I'd have done any differently. That guy had a bum shoulder (plus that weird muscle problem in his back/shoulder) and there's no way I'd have bet any money on it.

Also, I wouldn't call Wacha's time here SUPER successful. He had that nice bump in his rookie year, then that all star season. The rest of the time he was hurt or mediocre.

A lot of folks on here, myself included, were happy when he wasn't brought back. He was definitely part of that time here in St. Louis where Mo tried to sell a lot of guys as "it" when they were most certainly not "it" anymore. Like Matt Holliday.

Yea, and we'll see the same thread, from the same poster in 3 years when Carlson has 10 hr before the All-star break after he re-signs with a new team.

Wacha had the uncommon stress fracture issue that the dodgers McCarthy had so he was a full medical risk with the issue. Lynn did not have strikeout stuff as cardinal..really surprised at some success he had after departure. Both made sense to replace.

Mo has been stupid often over the past several years. But what’s fair is fair — letting these guys walk only looks bad with the benefit of hindsight.

I'm pretty sure the forum despised both players for their failures.... ....as they ultimately do with all players.

Wacha 2016-2021

2016. 27 games 24 starts 7-7 5.09 era 1.478 whip
2017 30 starts 12-9 4.13 era 1.358 whip
2018 15 starts 8-2. 3.20 era 1.233 whip
2019 29 games 24 starts 6-7 4.76 era 1.563 whip
2020 8 games, 7 starts 1-4 6.62 era 1.559 whip
2021 29 games 23 starts 3-5 5.05 era 1.307 whip

Yeah.... this is the guy we are complaining about letting walk after 2019???...

Glad Wacha rediscovered some magic after leaving. There was nothing to suggest that would happen with the Cardinals.

Hated letting LL walk but knew that was a done deal the instant the Mike Leake signing was announced. They gave him LL’s money and that was major mistake.

Lynn thought he was getting 4/100 on the market, which is why he turned down the QO. The market said, “no you ain’t you big fat choker who can’t hit, bunt, field or run.”
