Just made a similar post, so yes, I am similarly excited about the kid. I was just saying that he needs to work with VSII in his base stealing, because while he has speed, he hasn't really learned the art of stealing bases.

But it's very exciting watching him play right now. His emergence takes some of the sting out of Walker's struggles so far.

Him and Scott both are really fun players to root for and watch right now.

I think so. He was already great defensively and has the swagger of a star. His hitting this year has been outstanding since breaking out of his 0 for slump to begin the year.

Over his last 28 games, Winn is hitting .333/.415/.552 with 6 doubles, 5 HRs, and 12 BB-24 K in 111 PA.

Who was Jumpsteady? Templeton? Ozzie really didn’t hit much until the 80s and I still don’t think he ever hit five home runs in a single season let alone in a month and a half.


But I think Edgar was still a better hitter, although he wasn’t quite as young when he got promoted from the Aaa Marlins to St. Louis.

Most baseball people in the leauge view Masyn Winn as a steal taken in the 2nd round.

My question for CT . Walker and him came out in same draft and have been buddies buzzing thru the minors together. Some have suggested trading Walker . IF that would happen, would Winn be bummed out ? enough where it may affect his game some. Baseball is a business and young guys know that . Just wondering if trading his buddy may affect his play . Thought I had heard Walker once say they are close bros. Hope it would not .

Unfortunately, this is very true. Mason is an old style short stop at 5 foot 10 with excellent defense and to very good hitting.


However, his type has been eclipsed by a new breed of shortstop that runs from 6-1 to 6-5, and can hit at an MVP level with elite power and still possess great defense and speed. Isotypes it would’ve been relegated as first baseman or outfielders in a prior generation - Pujols, strawberry, etc. But they started at shortstop in Little League and never gave it up and just kept getting better in every facet of the game.

Having a Witt or a Henderson hit like an MVP and still play. The toughest defensive position is the next best thing to having one of those unicorn two way players, a Travis Hunter or Shohei Otani.

Masyn is great as SS but we still need to get that elite cleanup bat to play somewhere else.

Even if his defensive rank was 1 he is currently SS offense rank 25 so that would make him player 12-13. I know he missed some time but he’s just not a star hitter

Not saying he'll become him, but Winn's rookie year was pretty much comparable offensively to Witt Jr.'s at the same age minus the steals. And Witt Jr.'s 2nd year started very slow. We'll see how Winn finishes, but I wouldn't put anything past him right now. He's been on fire for almost the entire season now.

A bit unfair to compare him to prime vets like Lindor or Betts. Henderson and Witt, sure. They have achieved “super” star status. I guess I interpreted him as a budding star, as in all-star level. I’d say he has potential to reach top 5 overall over the next few years. Where’s the line between superstar vs all-star. Probably longevity.
