Arenado

He’s on pace for basically the exact same year as 2024.
15 HR, 65 RBI, hitting 255-270
With like a 730-770 OPS

If we take off the red-colored glasses, this is objectively mediocre at 3B and hitting cleanup.
You have to trade him if you can, you just do. Save the money, maybe get a prospect. There’s no point in having him on a reset roster

In a weak division, the reset can be over anytime we choose. Compete every year you can because the 2023 DBacks came out of nowhere and won a pennant. Good things can happen for teams that are 75% of the way there and decide to make a couple moves to get better.

Re: Nado - well who would be a better option and make us better than that for 25 and 26? Once we figure that out then we can talk about making it happen. I don't vote for getting worse with Gorman.

Well said the first paragraph. The Padres certainly didn't stick with the "reset" label very long last year.

You mean Mr. Clutch with the game on the line Arenado???
Outside pitch dip shoulder pop up to 1B with 2 men on NA??
Please trade this loser ASAP
And for those who love his nice little singles to short OF…..perhaps follow him to his new team…

He is still a defensive asset, however it is malpractice to continue batting him ahead of Contreras and Herrera in the lineup.

When he came up to bat in that position there was almost no doubt in my mind he would fail to get a runner in. Did anyone watching actually think he might hit a sac fly or do anything positive?

+1 at least move him out of the clean up spot he is a singles hitter he doesn't need to bat clean up. Contreras got off to a horrid start and has more RBI and Herrera has 100 fewer plate appearances and just 2 less RBI at least move him down to sixth but Oli refuses. I am not opposed to trading him I love his defense but I think Saggese could hit the same 16 Homeruns and 60-70 RBI he would provide and not be a huge drop off in defense. It's not like he is a leader either. And he said it himself he wasnt trying to rally the troops the last few years he was coming to play and contributing to the same defeatist attitude that was in the club house

Yep, honestly the only positive thing about him at this point is his defense. And I love his defense, but in terms of being a veteran leader he is not and he is not a cleanup hitter anymore. He's at best a 6th hitter and probably a 7th hitter in a good lineup. Unfortunately I don't think our manager is strong enough to move him down in the lineup until it is so obvious that he's cost us game after game.

i don't think saggese has the arm to play 3b --- but he does for 2nd and Donovan for sure can play 3b.

I was at times checking game day. Your forth and fifth place need to at least tie the game.

When they try to trade him, they will advertise him as a clean-up hitter, not a #6 hitter.

False ads aren't selling anything. GMs can look at the results. But you're right. They're so naive, they probably think they can get away with it.

Correct that Saggese doesn't have the arm for third. Donovan is ok.

Arenado has put up 1.4 WAR in 1/4th of the season. He's on pace for a 5.2 WAR season. He's doing fine.
