Gorman: How much longer?

I’ve always been supportive of giving him time as he has rare power potential. Unmatched in the system really. I’ve got to wonder how much longer he’s going to get though. He’s still only 24. The power potential is still there, but he’s been legitimately horrible for some time now. Saggese is ready, Weatherholdt is not far behind.
Does he get another month? Two? Until the end of this season?

Two more months to closer to trade deadline. At that point I could them see them move him as a sweetener in a deal for a better prospect in a Helsley trade. I don’t see him as a future infielder on this team unless he shows dramatic improvement.

I suggested the same the other day in a post that Gorman may be added to a deal at trade deadline.

Agree. That was the plan this year to see if he can play himself in to a position. Gotta go till the deadline and see what happens.

If he's still lost by the end of July, trade him. He's had ample opportunity. Play Saggese, Barrero, and maybe Prieto.

I wish someone would convince him to just shorten up with two strikes. He has good enough bat control to succeed at it, it's just a question of approach. The last AB today in particular was really bad with him swinging out of his shoes on strike 3 with 2 RISP and 1 out.
"Look kid you get two big hacks per PA, swing for the fences by all means... but the 3rd one you just need to poke it to the OF. That's 8 decent chances a game to go yard, but the rest of your swings are about putting it in play."

Perhaps you are right, but the other point of 2025 is to compete.
Hopefully he turns it around and the point is moot, but I have a hard time seeing them running him out there all year to hit .180

First of all Gorman is 25 in two days, so he's 25. But that's been the argument from the beginning with him...."he's only 21," he's only 22," "he's only 23," "he's only 24," now "he's only 25." At some point he has to become something other than his age. I've been as critical as anyone of his talent, or lack thereof but given that this year is not expected to be a contending season, you have to give him an entire year of MLB play to see if he can become some kind of player of value. He can't be traded, there's no reason to send him back to Memphis so just put him in the lineup on a regular basis and then he sinks or swims.

What is shocking is his loss of power.
Always knew he'd never be a high BA guy.
But....
Couple of years ago he had 27 HR in 406 ABs.
Looked like he had legit 40 HR potential.
Only 19 last season and just one this season. What happened?
I'll say this...I have a sick feeling he'll be traded and be a beast somewhere else. Just a feeling I have....

That’d be fine for him, of course. He could be the 2nd coming of Gorman Thomas, as far as I’m concerned. But what matters more to the club is what prospects he can get traded for.

Bernie put out a video yesterday about Gorman and Walker. Gorman's swing and miss is way down this year, but so is his hard contact. His bat speed is somewhere near the bottom of the league. So yea, while he's cut down on the strikeouts, the power has diminished.
It's crazy. He showed so much potential a few years ago. He went through that run where he was looking like a long term 30+ HR guy, then the league figured out how to pitch to him and he never adjusted. I keep waiting for the adjustment, because you know the talent is there, but it may never come. It sucks.

Silver lining is that multiple defensive metrics have him as a plus defender this year. Matches the eye test as well.

Would you rather have Gorman or Saggese?

When they sent him down last year he didn’t perform that well. Appears the league has a book on him and he’s unable to make adjustments.
