'Vic' speed getting national attention

Victor Scott II (called Vic by Oli in postgame remarks ) is getting noticed nationally more and more. Today , this article was on MLB.com
https://www.mlb.com/news/victor-scott-i ... dinals-win
In addition, I was watching Reds vs Braves tonight and the announcer mentioned Scott scoring twice today from 1st base on singles to the OF.
That first sprint home was in 9.28 seconds .. 6th fastest in MLB by Statcast.
Teams regularly play the 3rd baseman on the 'grass' when Vic comes to bat. Pitchers sure don't want to give him a 'free pass' , if they can help it .
He is quite the threat on the basepaths and his speed in CF is gettng added outs for the defense too.

Go Vic Go! He is easily one of the bright spots on the 2025 Cards!

And may he forever be remembered as the guy who sent Michael Siani packing. Tied for 3rd in OAA in MLB at 6.

There was never any need for Siani this year.

He should be in AAA getting reps, playing everyday.

He's on pace for about 5 fWAR. Well above average in base running, defense and batting.

If he can keep adjusting as the league adapts to him... then he is the CFer we have needed and the job is his for a while. He will no doubt slump, but let's see how he adjusts. Sure is fun to watch, and his D keeps improving. The kid is clearly a hard worker with a great attitude. He and Winn are fun to watch.

Thought the best posts a year ago were the ones that questioned Scott's talent level for the big leagues saying 'Yeah, he is fast but you can't steal first base !'
That will go down as a classic for Scott .

That will go down as a classic for Scott . Who on CT gets credit for applying that old baseball adage to VS II ?

I think people just said he would have to develop at the plate. Like Winn, he was overmatched during his first cup of coffee in the bigs. He worked hard and adjusted and now belongs. I think a few of us said you can't steal first and he'd have to develop, and he did. I certainly didn't write him off, but felt he would need some time in AAA. He made it. He will probably slump, but he has learned to keep the swing short and simple and take what he's given. It's refreshing that he doesn't hunt homers. If he keeps that approach he will probably stick and have a very good career. If he starts trying to crush everything he may go into a big slump. He's a smart kid so hopefully he just sticks to his approach. He is very valuable doing exactly what he does. Small ball, steal bags, stretch it on the bases...

....AND play outstanding defense in the OF. He already has a high outs above average . The kid can chase balls down in the gaps.. makes diving catches.. leaps at the wall. Coupling good offense with excellent defense will make him a complete player.

Yes, as I said earlier in the thread, his D is improving all the time. His routes are better and he just looks more comfortable. I think he is a smart, and hard working kid, and very coachable. Let's hope he stays healthy and can adjust to the adjustments the pitchers will make. Keep bunting, take your walks, slap your singles, hit odd gapper or dinger, but get on base and use that speed, and play that D. Has a great future as a leadoff hitter as he develops. I would keep him down in the order where he is this year and let him continue to develop.

Thanks for sharing great article and good point about pitchers not wanting to walk him you have to think that helps him get more hittable pitches

Great to see another Cardinals player w/speed who causes havoc on the basepaths in the spirit of L. Brock and V. Coleman!

He looks to have better hitting skills than Coleman, and not going to be Lou at the plate. We shall see. But 8 of 9 or 9 of 10 or whatever it is in the SB category, and scoring from first twice yesterday... and running down balls in the gap, and the leaping home run robbing catch.... fun to watch. I am enjoying the team because I love watching some kids develop and I don't expect them to do anything in the post season. MO will be gone too and then Bloom gets to build the team he wants. There are some good pieces here to build around.

Agreed bcc better than Coleman, not Brock level.

Having VSII along w/M. Winn it looks like C. Bloom has two "up the middle" pieces in place to build around w/J.J. coming soon to man 2B!

If only I. Hererra was a stud behind the plate, then we'd have one helluva up the middle for the next 10 years!
