The biggest mistake the Cardinals have made

Was trying to create a Dan Uggla out of Nolan Gorman. Insane idea as not only could he not play very good at second base he couldn't hit either. Such a waste of time when they could have been developing a good, young, talented second baseman instead of trying to develop someone who did not have talent at that position.

Silly me. i thought you were going to say not signing Max Scherzer when he wanted to come here, or not pursuing Bryce Harper.

Very silly as the Cardinals don't waste big money, only time.

I'd put the Carlton trade just a tad higher on the list. Then firing Joe Torre. Then Alcantara and Gallen. A few dozen more.

There’s a lot more to the Reuss deal than a mustache. Apparently, Reuss thought he’d signed for a $200 million bonus and spent accordingly. The Cardinals grew tired of the dun notices piling up.

Money applied to him too.

Alcantara and Gallen aren't doing that great this year. It was a mistake but not like trading Carlton, Reyes and Cuellar.

Or Bobby Tolan and Wayne Granger. Thanks for mentioning Cuellar, what a miss.

None of that has anything to do with wasting time. That's all about money.

While I did think Torre did a good job with the roster he had, he was replaced by TLR.
The Carlton situation probably cost them chances at the playoffs in 1973, 1974, and 1981.

joe torre was a very mediocre manager until he was plucked by the yankees to coach that group of future hall of famers. you or I could have managed to not screw up that group, the biggest thing he brought was being comfortable with the NY press.

Herzog was a very mediocre manager for that same ownership. Both HOF.

Torre was a much better manager that LaRussa.

Alcantara and Gallen have won 100 games - 0 for the Cardinals. One won a Cy Young. The other led his team to a NL pennant. There are probably worse but that was a big one and they are still active.
