McGreevy has been absolutely great. Not overly confident with Helsley especially after one save already today.
May not work. But, I like the call.

The bigger issue is why can’t Helsley finish this game too. He’s pitched like one time in 10 days. He threw 14 pitches in the first game to get that save. I think it’s why you should look to move him. He’s certainly not being overworked.

McGreevy was the right move. He was breezing thru that Mets lineup and was gaining strength as he went.
Helsley could have done it...or not. He had already pitched in the first game and the lead hitter reached 3d base... He invariably gives up a hit to the first batter. Would have hated to see what that might have been with Alonso coming to the plate.

I love the call... love the piggy back starter without pulling him when he's not yet at his limit.
Two good games for Oli today.

Ditto
Oli may have also been sending a subtle message to Pallante that McG is pushing hard for his spot in the rotation.

I agree also, especially in hindsight, lol.

Pallante's only got 1 QS in last 4. He needs to pick it up...or should be hearing McGreevy's footsteps.

No, I don't think so. You have to let Pallante continue to develop. This is a development year, right? Jerking him around won't help.
If you want to relegate someone to the bullpen then send Mikolas. He's gone after this year anyway. If he doesn't like it then maybe he'll waive.
Plenty of mediocre pitchers in the pen to send to AAA to make room.

Good rationale. But, Mikolas is pitching better than most all of our pitchers, minus Liberatore, lately. Call it a development year, but we're still trying to win. Mikolas' departure from the rotation is more likely in late July. Pallante was about ready to slip off the ledge in the 4th inning if Oli hadn't saved him. Saving a pitcher from himself doesn't qualify as jerking him around. They need to look at his mechanics and see why he's been less effective lately. How they do that isn't my issue. I very much like Pallante, but, he needs to remain effective.

That's too short sighted to suit me. You have to give him his run. It's time to give McGreevy his run as well. I'd rather give a guy his shot who actually has a chance to be in your rotation full time in 2026. If you haven't noticed we're a little short on starters looking into next year.
I'm sure MM would re-up though ...egads!

It took guts to leave McGreevy in. Especially when the meat of their lineup had already seen him his first time thru the lineup. Good for Oli on this one.

If he wanted to see if McG was up to the challenge, then he passed with flying colors.
I think he'll be in the SR before long.

There is nothing left for McGreevy to prove. Only health issues would keep him out of the lineup next year. That's got nothing to do with anything. I'm in favor of McGreevy continuing. Don't have a problem with a 6 man rotation or resting one of the struggling starters. You don't sit Mikolas while he's on the run he's on. That's just short sighted.
