In years past the Cards would have been in play for Tucker and Hopefully signed him. The perfect young OF All-star this club needs.
Theres really no reason why the Cubs made the trade and not Cards. With Goldy contract falling off and moving NA this would’ve been a step to the future with 28 yr of Tucker with no great financial strain. Walker is never going to be this guy.

He’s gonna get a number that makes DeWitt curl up into the fetal position.

I was thinking more along the lines of sub 100.
TuckeR is a stud regardless. Cubs fans are having a blast watching him.

Tucker is an impact player. Trading for, and potentially extending Tucker could be the Cub equivalent of when the Cards did the same with Edmonds.
Time will tell if the prospects they gave up will be worthwhile for houston. I happen to think that Isaac Paredes is just a bit overrated.
You're right. This is the type of move the Cardinals used to make.

Tucker could easily get $400-500 million. Times have changed. I don’t see the Cardinals making that kind of a signing with BDW at the helm. Cubs probably won’t either, so they better win it all this year.

Please go to FA Tucker, don't be a fool and sign w/them.
Cheap a z z scrubs won't win that bidding war!

I've heard it said that this was the type of trade that gets made by a front office that knows they're on their way out. I suppose it all depends on that extension.
Would Tucker be worth that to you? He's as consistent as they come at the plate. He's one of those guys I'd feel comfortable expecting him to put up big numbers well into his 30's. Power and OBP. A poor man's Juan Soto. Maybe even a middle class man's Juan Soto.

Sure hope you are correct - he is just the right man for the cubbies to keep, I just doubt they will be able to persuade him to sign before the end of the year - unless, they win the division and then go deep into the playoffs. He is a Florida native, so maybe the west coast teams won't be as attractive to him. Yankees might go after him in a major way.

Curious what you would have offered Houston?

Even moderate spenders have trouble with those kind of contracts.
If the Cubs win that bidding it will take away elsewhere. He's really
good as we all know a 30/100 guy.
He'll get term and dollars. For a team not to be a top 8 spender to go after
him, I'm not sure it makes sense. That was at least Houston's thought.

I can't see that cheap ownership putting out $450+M for Tucker, what he's rumored to be seeking but could be wrong since they absolutely could afford it.
He'd be a fool to sign w/them for anything less since he most likely will get that number w/another great season.

And Tucker will get twice that much in a long term deal. I believe he is 28 yo. Astro's fans gotta be sick about his and Bregman's starts.

lol no kidding a certain trashstros troll always says no one wants to play for the cardinals when all the cardinals players with no trade clauses refused to waive them including Arenado who refused to waive his to go to the trashstros and meanwhile the trashstros have lost springer Bregman and Tucker because they don’t want to sign extensions with them
