Helsley has pitched 1 inning in the last 10 days …. Oli just doesn’t get it

I’m pretty sure his contract doesn’t state he can only pitch in the save situation……. Oli is so bad it almost laughable

Oli uses the off-the-shelf commodity approach to managing.

Right now, it appears Helsley's trade value is being wasted. Why wouldn't a team that looks to be in the race and is need of a closer, not pay more now for him now rather than at the trade deadline?

You make many 'bazar ' posts...but I agree with this one.

Fedde and helselys value goes down every day they stay on the roster

Frustrating of course and yes we are judging from hindsight!
Friday- Tie game in ninth. Chooses to save Helsley for possible save in the tenth. Gutsy move with the top of the order coming up. Goes to Fernandez. If it works he looks like a genius. Lindor hits one that hasn’t landed yet. Ooooops!
Last night- Up one in the 8th. Again top of the order. I admit to thinking. How about Helsley for their best? Then again...Maton has been VERY GOOD. K’s first batter then he induced weak grounder that Donovan plays into a baserunner.
Then a walk. Ground ball hit. Romero doesn’t have it. Five runs should have been zero!

Really good managers- Right well over 50%!
Average managers- around 50/50!
Oli- feels like 10/20%!

"K’s first batter then he induced weak grounder that Donovan plays into a baserunner". Maybe that play helps keep Saggese from being sent down when Winn is activated. Saggese's infield defensive versatility and RH bat are needed, right now.

I just posted in another thread that I would NOT send Saggese down when Winn returns.

I don’t see where I specifically said that?
I said it would have taken guts to bring in Helsley in the 8th and Maton has been very good.
Reading comprehension.

I just asked, didn't say you did. But you grade him 10-20%...which, according to your scale, is way below average

Yes.....my opinion is that he is way below average.
Of course just my opinion. Even is he is just “below average” I don’t see him as the answer.

Helsley pitches one inning. That is his comfort and with his injury history that is what has worked. We can complain about it all we want but that is the way it is. So if he pitches early in those tie games who pitches the bottom of the next inning on the road? I would think on the road many managers would do the same thing as Marmol did there. Last night he did absolutely nothing wrong. He had Maton pitch the 8th with a lead then would let Helsley close. Maton has been nails. Last night he wasn't. It happens.

You people with your Ollie hate have let it affect your thinking ability. You love to second guess in hindsight. Why don't you post on the GDT in real time instead and put your moves out there before you know the result. That would be interesting.

Corrcet.
10 days with the best pitcher on the roster not throwing a single pitch is managerial idiocy.

Might want to have someone walk up to Marmot and "what about Helsley"? If he answers who ? you know why he has not been utilized.
