Good morning.

Need a stop. An Ace is your best pitcher but doesn’t bean he stops losing streaks.

A stopper wins every game that has a losing streak attatched to it. Today we need a stop.

Go Cards.

A stopper wins EVERY game that has a losing streak attached to it ? Whether the team wins or loses may not determine on the effectiveness of the pitcher on the mound . Ex. In 1968, Bob Gibson had an astounding 1.12 ERA (Lowest in MLB history that is still the record 57 years later )
That year Gibson lost 9 games . He completed 28 of 34 starts that year with 13 shutouts. You still need your offense to score a couple runs for you for the 'stopper' to win the game .

I’m talking about a pitcher who ends a losing streak on his dime. Might not win many others but he stops the bleeding. We need that today. Four game skids are not nice. As for offense, yes they win games. But not a 8-7 type. Need a stop.

Could he be a Stacer?

Good point. An Ace performance should double as a stop as long as we win. He could Ace one and not win. That’s not a knock on the Ace.

As ram mentioned the offense must show for either to be successful.

My definition of stopper, like your’s Dog, is a starter who stops a losing streak. Stops the bleeding. Stoppers have three things—stuff, command and grit. Sonny has the grit, he still has command most days, but his stuff is fading, the way Waino’s stuff began to fade (before the precipitous decline).

What current players would you consider stoppers and what current players would you consider an ace?

Great question. No Ace. Stopper- we have only had two losing streaks of note.

Of note- Gray stopped the two game skid and the four gane skid. Now he gets another chance. So far he’s been a stopper.

Oooooh. I think if Gray stops today he may lead the majors at three.

Discuss please. Stopper- when he pitches they may not win, but if it’s a losing streak he stops it. Depends also on the offense to score runs. Ace. Best pitcher by stats and record.

To date, Gray has stopped two losing streaks with a third in front of him.

I’d say currently he’s both.

A rare breed anymore. Mattie Morris. Suppan Danny Cox. Tewks, CC type guys. As and if memory serves.

Agree with 4 game skids not nice. Just wanted to make sure that if Gray allows 1, 2 , or 3 runs that he is not the goat if the Cards lose the game.

No. Team game. He needs offense. Libby needed the same. 1.2.3 runs thru six would be a fine QS. I’d take my offensive chances at that point.
