What we know- Gorman flails away with zero plate discipline.
What we don’t know- how is this guy being coached? He has power to all fields and the ball jumps off his bat when he DOES manage to make contact.
Are they just patting this guy on the back and telling him to stick with it?? If so.....I think we’ve reached the point to lay down the law to him.
Learn the strike zone
Stop worrying about hitting HR’s
Make contact

Or else? You’re sitting!

They aren’t telling him to swing at those pitches. The problem is he has bad pitch recognition he swings thinking it’s a hittable pitch but it’s not

I don’t think it’s any of the above some people just aren’t good at picking up pitches it’s why baseball is the hardest sport. It’s why you have fat players who are major league players and freak athletes who never taste the big leagues because it’s a matter of being able to pick up pitches. If it was so easy to say just swing at good pitches very few hitters would ever strike out

Agree with OP. Club has had so many opportunities to get rid of this guy and haven’t taken it. Every year he shows who he is: a strikeout merchant who can’t hit off speed pitches.

Good post, Ozzie !
Getting hits in baseball at the MLB level is VERY difficult . If a player gets 3 hits for every 10 at bats, you are a .300 hitter . So 7 times you make an out and just 3 times you get a hit. Doesn't sound that tough right to be successful 3 of every 10 times.
Well , in 2024 season there was a total of 7 (SEVEN) players in the entire MLB that could muster a 3 for 10 pace or better . 7 guys on the 30 teams. If you count 9 starters in the lineup (includes DH ) , that's 270 major leaguers .. 263 of those 270 could not get 3 hits for every 10 at bats.
Yes, it is VERY tough to get hits in the MLB.

Looked good before injury. I’m still willing to give him most of the playing time til at least trade deadline. Hoping bloom cooks at deadline and mo is in the back seat.

Yes. He’s trending downwards in a big way, but this is the season that they need to get him as many ABs as they can to see if he can figure it out.

He has not played much so far. A day here and there. He needs to spend time with the hitting coach. Don't know if he will ever hit off speed pitches much.
