I know I'm biased but my genuine guess is that everyone who works with him simply doesn't like being around him.

Unlike Thompson he brought real knowledge to his commentary and didn’t shy from criticism when warranted. I liked that.

Unlike Thompson he liked to talk about himself too much.

I preferred him over Thompson but not a huge fan as an announcer.

If Edmonds had stayed on , I wonder what his analysis would be on the terrific work Brant Brown has done with this ball club. Would he be totally complimentary ? Would he have been jealous ? Guess we will never know.

You can't be the least critical of the ballclub on the broadcast or you're out.

Hrabosky can get away with it because he's an institution like Shannon was. Shannon a protege of Buck could could get away with it as well.

But the line ends there.

The powers that be want the casual go to the ballpark and watch occasionally from the comfort of home fan to hear sweet nothings not the complexities of throwing to the wrong base or taking a strike on a 2-0 count when the pitcher has just walked two batters and you're down by four runs.

Edmonds did grate on people during the broadcast but if that's what got him canned Brad would have been outside the stadium selling giant foam fingers long ago.

I think people were tired of him talking about himself instead of the players on the field.

If that were the reason, they sure waited a long time to punish him. Of course, we're talking the Cardinals, so maybe they did just find out about it. Someone should let them know that Mike Shannon has passed.
