Posting Question

Honest questions about what is and isn't allowed on the forum. There was a post earlier about Brad Thompson. The OP compared Brad's delivery to a well known politician. It seemed to be more humorous than mean-spirited. But the thread was locked by the moderator for being political.
A separate thread about Jackie Robinson had replies that did invoke politics. However, that thread remains open.
So do threads get locked if a politician is named? And it's ok to drop political references if no name is attached? Or does it all boil down to which political party is the subject?
Again, not stirring the pot. Just want to know for future reference.

Sometimes wonder the same thing.
And not saying that to stir the pot either.
Mods have a tough job and I understand them trying to “keep it about baseball”.
Rambling political discussions have no place on a baseball forum.
But....in the course of having a legit discussion on baseball and you make reference to an individual jokingly who is in politics I get where it can be tough to differentiate.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that it has to be difficult and frustrating to moderate some of the threads/posts. But the threads I mentioned earlier made me curious.

I’m not sure what rules are I don’t have a problem with what the mods did it was a dumb post just trying to invite a political argument same with the Jackie Robinson thread although they didn’t mention names. It’s just dumb for posters to interject their political opinions on a baseball forum. If mods let people get away with it every post will get hijacked by dumb political arguments

Welcome
I don’t envy the job the MOD’s have.
Generally I stay away from the political stuff.
Even if I was so inclined to get “into it” with someone the “anonymous” nature of the forum eliminates “accountability”.
So even if you make a valid point the other person can just deflect and dodge.

The post about BT was blocked because it was an obvious attempt to inject the OPs political views into a sports forum. It was in no way meant as "humorous".
At last count, there are 4,374,632 political boards where one can broadcast their views to their heart's content. That (bleep) has no business here.

I agree it preferably should be nonexistent on the baseball forum. But it doesn't explain why the other thread wasn't locked. It too injected politics.

Brad Thompson is terrible, though. Especially after seeing what it could be without him. BT seems like a nice guy, but he really needs to go. I wonder what Chip thinks and if he gets much input into who he works with. Chip seems to genuinely like Brad but surely he knows the broadcasts are better without him.

Yep, Brad (and Ricky) are barely listenable. When I can, I always pick up the opposing team’s tv or radio feed. There are a lot of good quality broadcasts out there.

I didn't read the other thread because, based on the subject line, I figured it would probably end up going sideways.
If it went political, then yes, it should be blocked. If not, I humbly apologize for judging a book by its cover.

Mods decide what is political. It is not very consistent. Basically it's anything that is very current and controversial.
Like forget about mentioning the name of a certain country that is committing genocide, even if you're e.g. just describing on Reel Time why a certain movie may have bombed at the box office.

I wonder if Brad Thompson watched and listened to Mark Sweeney last weekend...and tweaked his own performance upon his return.
Personally FWIW, I think Rick Horton's work is just awful. Again, do the powers that be actually LISTEN to these guys before handing out coveted TV/radio jobs? It's not like the qualified applicants' well is dry.
I'm very fortunate, hearing Steve Bertiaume with either Bob Brenly or Tom Candiotti on D'backs games***, and Stephen Nelson with Eric Karros on Dodgers telecasts, and Nelson with the great Rick Monday on radio.
I've been a big fan of Chip Caray going back to his Cubs and Braves days.
*** Please, under penalty of death, no more Randy Johnson, not EVER!!

Thank you to the mods for deleting anything which even hints at turning political.
I'd rather they delete too many than not enough. No one will be injured if their thread gets deleted unjustly.
