How close is Mathews to being ready?

Because if he is, the Cardinals' rotation needs help. The sooner the better. That's if they want to be in the division race. McGreevy looked ready last season already.

He walked 14 in 16 innings at the end of the season last season and 9 in 7 innings there this season so he needs to work on his control how long that will take I don’t know

Not good to learn about Mathews' control issue. Roddery Munoz has had some experience as a MLB starting pitcher and he's still relatively young. If he continues to pitch well at Memphis, he could get an opportunity. Though it looks like they may have him pegged as a reliever.

If he does reasonably well we may see him after the trade deadline.

Tired of the fan boys wanting to rush this guy.
Why would you want him up here now?

I'm not sure I would bring a promising prospect into this trainwreck.

Amen. He needs more time in the minors.

Yes.....by all means bring Mathews our best pitching prospect up in Mid April as we are teetering on the precipice of dropping out of the divisional race!
Where do these people come from????

Don't rush a guy to the majors in a lost season

McGreevey is probably closer to to moving into the starting rotation.

lol, so basically you wanted to start a Roddery Munoz thread without starting one.

And frankly, should already be in the rotation.

If he gets his control issues under control, then I definitely hope we see him as an Aug/Sept call up.
He can get a couple of starts while adjusting to the major leagues (travel, media, ect...) and getting to know his teammates (hopefully Oli and his coach are gone so no need to get to know them).
Then he's ready to compete for a rotation spot right out of STing/2026.

agree 100%
but we could promote McGreevy
(he being in a different category than Mathews experience-wise)

Mathews will be ready when he's ready. He isn't that close. He's having control problems in Memphis. May not be ready in '25.
