Re: Hockey Writers power rankings
It's hard to not put them there, when they have beaten a couple of cup contending teams during this run, including beating the Avs 2 times. If you had to ask me who I thought was going to win the cup today, my order would be :
1 Dallas
2 Avalanche
3 Vegas
4 Tampa
5 Oilers
6. Leafs
I put the Oilers in there assuming Drai and Mcdavid can get thru the whole playoffs.
That being said, I have 0 faith in the Leafs, especially if they get Florida round 1. It just seems like the West has way more teams capable because Winnipeg, The Kings on home ice are unbeatable, and now the Blues. You have 7 teams that depending on how the first 2 rounds shake out could go win it from the west, where you have a hard time coming up with the east teams and who is going to take care of business. You will have a better grasp on the east after round 1. But its going to take 2 rounds of hockey to see who from the west has the goods.
It get's really hard not to rank the Blues high when they keep beating teams even not playing their best at times.

Its hard to argue and kinda unbelievable. The way the Blues are checking as a team, defending, goaltending, depth scoring how could you not proclaim currently the best team in the NHL. Its not like the Blues are only beating up on patsies either. Still, Paraykos loss has created a hole that is showing in pressure, late game moments where Faulk has been on the ice vs CP this would have to change soon. Idk, i wouldnt have said this prior to the 4 Nations but you have to consider the Blues a contender
Since 2/22 Blues are:
First in the NHL in Pts
First in RWs
First in GF
5th in GA
5th in SA/GP
And the Blues are doing it with major contributions from
Since 2/22
Thomas is 1st in the NHL 34 pts
Bolduc (21) tied for 6th in Goals
Fowler tied for 3rd in Dman Pts
Binnie .917 save pct, 2.15 GA,

WOW... Ovie went from "Bad" bod (bad being good in this case) to "Dad" bod... But age does that to us.
You win 12 in a row, you deserve to be tops at least one week.

Yeah and they aren’t just getting lucky either. This is just dumb now. I don’t understand … does not compute.seattleblue wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 13:16 pm they're 19-2-2 since I stopped lurking and started talking about the prospect pipeline here

You might find it a bad analogy, but one that comes to mind is a 8 person crew rowing in a perfectly set boat. It takes a lot. Each individual member has responsibility to develop their own oar sweep perfectly, with power. The amount of focus and discipline it takes to have eight people put the blade in the water at the exact same moment, over and over again, is so difficult. It takes one person being one hair off and you're not in it. Which is pretty much always, every practice. A fraction off somewhere.theograce wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 13:42 pmYeah and they aren’t just getting lucky either. This is just dumb now. But once you are in it, you immediately know it. It feels like your one individual oar is HURLING the boat forward because you are in perfect sync. I know for a fact that the right skilled coach can steer a group of eight untrained individuals toward that kind of nirvana. It can be designed, a person can lead others to that.
My hypothesis is Montgomery has a preternatural understanding of how to do this in a hockey team context. That's why his success translates so easily across levels and teams. Don't get me wrong a lot of other factors are coming together at the exact same time, and this could easily be the season high point before playoff reality. But it feels like the days of missing the playoffs are done for awhile, and that alone is worth celebrating. Future is bright. Legit prospects on the doorstep. I think there's no turning back on the offense at this point and the big question is how the defense gels next year and what needs to be added. Armstrong is like a generally strong poker player with some leaks in his game that can bite him, but right now he cannot lose a pot.

For sake of a snap shot of today, it is hard to argue they should not be #1 right now but it is rather amazing to see.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 11:03 am Its hard to argue and kinda unbelievable. Monty has them rolling and believing .....these guys are making all the big and small plays to pull this run off and while not under literal play off pressure it's dang close.
Let's get in Blues and make some noise boys!

"Where is his fracas?"
I know I'm misremembering the wording, and whether or not it was an actual exchange on the news, or where I heard it.

Q: The truth of the matter is that you were not an unbiased, objective witness, isn't it. You too were shot in the fracas?
A: No, sir. I was shot midway between the fracas and the naval.
