Meh it’s far too early to worry about where we are in loss columns.

Sadly I fear we may be trailing the Northsiders for the rest of the season. That season opening sweep might just be our high water mark.

Not what I want .... but .... there is almost always hope (in baseball anyway)
go cards

Who’s worrying.. just pointing out Cards have less losses than division leader.

If I was truly worrying, I would have said ‘Only 155 games left to catch those Cubbues !’ :D :D

The Cubs, Dodgers series aside, on paper, are the best in the division, but not by a mile. Teams have to enough talent to have a chance. But given, enough talent the team that gels the best tends to win.

The Cardinals aren't the 0-3 start or the 1-3 next 4. They are a team that is that will probably finish around .500.

Think that(checking standings ) comes from my bowling background. In our major leauge , it was a 32 week season. 96 total games. The games in September were as important as the games in late April. Each week bowlers came to the lanes , you went to
league standing sheet . Bowlers would A. check the W-L standings, B. Lane Assignments for that night C. Average of yourself and fellow bowlers
D. If you were in 1st place, you would certainly look at who the 2nd place team was bowling that evening. It was a very competitive scratch league.

So just a creature of habit to check standings in MLB as bowling leagues over all those years.

But, in most leagues, they are split up in quarters, with $$$ being paid out for all 4 quarter winners. In this case, yes, monitoring standing every week is normal.

Standings don’t matter but wins and losses do. Giving away winnable games in April matter just as much as giving away games in September. How many winnable games did the cardinals lose in April and may last season that could have helped? If they lose a play off spot by a couple of games this season yea those two extra inning games the bullpen choked away mattered even if it was April

Since I go back to 70’s 80 ‘s fir thise leagues, back then it was straight 96 games with most wins at end league champ.
Then sometime in 90’s our league went to two halves ..48 games each. Each half winner rolled off 3 games at end.
No quarters ever used while I bowled .

Watched Dubs vs Pads. Barley 50 F and Midwest cloud cover. Pads just not really in game.

Carson Kelly, name ring a bell ? - Cub catcher, 2-3 - 4 RBi. .467 Avg & 1.658 OPS. Even in T Ball never thought he could achieve such numbers even if only 11 games.
