Using Helsley in a tie at home

I know it has long been common practice to use your closer in a tie game at home in the top of the ninth since so save opportunity will exist during that game. With the new (patently absurd) extra inning rules, shouldn't that logic change? Shouldn't you always save your best strikeout guy for extra innings because strike outs matter more with the guy already on second? It seems pretty straightforward to me.

Obviously you still have to get to the 10th inning, but yes, I agree there is some merit to the idea of saving your best reliever for the "trickier" 10th inning rather than the 9th.

I think you play to win the game in the 9th. Pitching your best option in top of 9th increases your chances.

Why couldn't you send him out to start the 10th after the 9th?

managers are supposed to manage to win the game, not play a "What if " scenario for the 10th.
Manage in the moment, not for the future.

Oli developed a plan last season to avoid using Helsley in Multiple innings in hopes of keeping him healthy.

The elephant in the room is moving Libby to the SR has in affect had a ripple effect as it weakened the pen' which has blown the two games.
I understand the move (Libby is young and has more value as a SP) but his quality relief work has not be replaced.

That managing is why they lost the last two games. managers should probably adjust managing strategies to the new ghost runner rule that is my opinion but its one of those where if they dont use helsely in the 9th and cards lose Oli gets flamed if he uses him in the 9th and they lose he gets flamed

we lost b/c our other relievers Schat the bed....Fernandez and Roycroft. Who pitches the 9th if you move Helsley? And will they then pitch a perfect 9th, and allow no runs? Will Helsley allow a hit in the 10th and plate the runner at 2B?

But its weird to say I dont trust Fernandez or roycroft to pitch the 9th but I trust them to pitch the 10th with a runner starting out on second
