Haven't verified this yet, but a loudmouth in my club just told me Manfred is going to ban the controversial torpedo bats.

Anyone hear anything about this? Not sure what to believe....

If he does the Yankees would have a very legitimate argument as evidently they took them to MLB and MLB approved them.

Why in the world would he ban them? It’s actually causing conversation about baseball and homeruns are popular. People love seeing them.
And, since they already fit within the current requirements, on what grounds would he ban them? Is he going to try implementing new rules during the season? I guess these are rhetorical questions

Well, if a loudmouth at your club can't be fully believed, who CAN be? Quick, dial up FanDuel and bet the house.

Yes home runs are popular, but that's not the only thing people want to see.

Believe it or not people don't go to the game to watch a team hit 12 home runs, strike out 17 times, and walk 10 times.

I don't know if he will or won't, but if enough teams complain about them he can outlaw them. However, as I stated above, the Yankees would have quite a legitimate argument as they took them to MLB before the season started and got MLB approval. I just don't think MLB thought it would be the advantage that it appears to be.

That's why I find it so incredulous, but my "friend" insisted the announcement was coming. Oh well...time to get loose before my tee time. Cold & Windy...ideal golf conditions!

Yankees didn’t invent them.

“It became viral,” New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Monday. “But it’s nothing new for us.”

Aaron Leanhardt, a 48-year-old Miami Marlins coach, has been credited by many with being the brains behind the bats, which were first highlighted when Yankees players used them in a franchise-record nine-home run performance and 20-9 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

“There were definitely some major-league players that swung it in the big leagues in 2023,” Leanhardt said Monday. “As well as some minor-league players who swung it in some real baseball games in 2023, and it just kind of built up throughout 2024 into what it is today.”

Yes, but the strikeouts are happening with or without the bat. Homeruns are exciting. The cardinals sucked in the late 90s but the stands were filled bc of McGwire. Baseball was more popular during the steroid era than it is today. Way more

Some home runs are exciting. Only home runs and strikeouts are not.

If people only want to see home runs then just have each game be a home run derby.

For me, the most exciting thing in baseball is stringing 4, 5 or 6 hits together, and keep going 1st to 3rd for 15 minutes. Kind of like the cards of the 80s. 8 homeruns per game is more like a softball game played on a field too small for it.

I dont think any ban would happen midseason but he could be talking about banning for next season depending on resukts

Wouldn't Pitchers just adjust? Don't throw to the sweet spot. Each player's bat is showing where it's at.

I don’t think the torpedo bat does that. Seems like an overreaction on your part.

It was one game, not per game. Big difference and a complete overreaction on your part.

Seems like an insane thing to do if it happens. There isn’t cork or some foreign object added to the bats. The maximum diameter, the weight and length aren’t exceeding limitations. Idk what the big deal is. In a time in which pitchers are throwing a hundred and hitting is harder than ever, why would Manfred consider stomping out the one thing that might be helping hitters?
