TBH I almost think Contreras was trying to surprise everyone and bunt for a single. Regardless, wow have I seen that game before.

That was pretty much a text book replay for 70% of the Cards losses last year.

However, if Winn and the return of Willy Long Con weren't smoking something in the dugout in between innings and could actually get a hit, Cards probably win that game.

Winn has at least had some decent contact. Contreras just looks baaaaaad.

Contreras bunting was a head scratcher to be sure.
No need for the #2 hitter to trade an out for a base in a tie game - particularly when the new rules give the home team a huge advantage in extra innings.
But the game mismanagement started sooner.
Brutal BP management by The Marmot in the 9th and 10th.
Stupid to use your best strikeout pitcher in the 9th knowing full well that if there is a 10th inning it will start with the opposition having a free baserunner on 2B.
Should have been Romero in the 9th and Helsey in the 10th.

The biggest mistake was Baker batting 3rd. He's not a MLB player. Totally froze in a big spot. I don't blame Marmol. He doesn't make the lineup. Just hands it in.
