Interesting attendance yesterday

Yes it was a rainy Saturday….but still was the first Saturday of the season. 30K in the stands. If we average that for the season, the Dewitt’s are going to lose some serious money. Would be about 2.4M and that’s 400K+ less than last year. Thats a lot of money lost to them. I think this reduced payroll has to be a 1 year gig and we’ll see a recommitment from the franchise to a higher payroll next year after they see the results of the youth movement. Thoughts?

There will be more than enough financial flexibility there. And (hopefully) a nice core of cheap young talent(Walker, Winn, Mcgreevy, Matthews, Herrera, Scott, JJ) along with some solid and relatively inexpensive veteran pieces(Noot, Donny, Contreras) and only 2 “major” contracts(Arenado? And Gray) would be an extremely opportunistic offseason to make some splashes and get back into good graces with the fanbase if you’re Bill Dewitt. And maybe his Boo shower will have him pay more attention this year to fan frustration. Am I optimistic about it? Of course not. Especially with that probable lockout around the corner. But the time to strike would be next offseason

At one time and not so long ago, 2 M was the Gold Standard.

If they draw 2 M plus in a payroll slashed season that can only be considered a phenomenal year.

And justification to further slash and not increase payroll good NG forward.

I was there. Paid attendance was announced over 30k, seemed more like maybe 20k actually there to me but who knows. If the team keeps playing good baseball and winning people will start showing up. Until then it’s a discontented fan base that is showing early they won’t show up to watch this roster play if they don’t produce.
