OT: Tommy Edman defense

Our old friend Tommy Edman just put on a clinic at 2nd base in the top of the 9th for the Dodgers tonight.

A great scoop catch for a force out, a great stop on the SS side of the base and throw for the out, then a great relay throw from short RF to (questionably) cutting down the go ahead run at the plate to end the inning.

Sorry I don't have a link because it just happened, but I recommend checking it out.

He’s what you call a professional baseball player sorta like Tommy Herr but who needs them?

Edman basically controlled that inning. Impressive, but I think Margot was safe.

He plays several positions at a GG level, and is a contact hitter - a real “ball player”. Every contending team needs a player like that.

I would add, however, that the Cardinals have a similar a player on their team in Donovan.

Yeah, but we got a starter gor only $7.5, so there’s that, right, Bills?

Good selfless player. Glad he ended up in LA, where his friends and family can drive up from San Diego
to see him play.

Good to see him not be wasted on a bad team.

I'm a big Donovan fan, but I've never understood the defensive comparison. Donovan can not play the hardest positions on the field. Edman however is GG caliber wherever you put him. I prefer Donovan's bat but defensively there is no comparison. There might not be one in baseball. Already has as many HR's as Siani hits all last year.

Moving away from him is one of several examples of the Cardinals moving away from prioritizing defense.

Which would be fine if the guys they were focusing on instead could absolutely rake.

He also plays CF for the Dodgers. Never a Superstar, but a dang valuable player to have on a Championship team.

“Bad team”? That remains to be determined.
