It’s both. They’re hoping to be competitive while they reset their payroll to a lower number. I agree it may look worse than it was. But mistake number one was announcing the intentions. Agreed. I haven’t understood nor agreed with the Cards messaging/communication (strategy or content) for some time. I live an hour from Tampa so I get to watch Tampa do it every year. Get value from the guys they can get value for but hold the guys they can't. All of the guys you mentioned can still be traded mid-season if there is a market. Reset year does not mean "tank" those are two very different things. You are making assumptions that maybe are not true.
