Siani isn't blocking anyone

For those who wish "X" players were brought up to the OD roster instead of Siani, see Baker, Walker and Burleson.

THOSE are the players you should be mad at.

Why? Because those are the players the org is going to take a long look at the first 4-to-8 weeks of the season. THOSE are the players who would block Barrero, Kop and others from playing time.

Siani merely supports the roster choices above.

Now, you don't like it? You want Barrero and Kop to get chances? Just wait.

Was Donovan on the 2022 OD roster? No. Did he make a big difference on the 2022 team? Yeah.

Just wait...It's only the OD roster. It's not forever....

So it's guys that can hit that are blocking other players? Are we required to set aside a certain number of spots for guys who can't hit?

It seems to me a waste of a roster spot for strictly a defensive replacement

The fact that Jordan Walker is a butcher in field should not guarantee Sinai a roster spot.

Koperniak should have that spot or Fermin

Unintended consequence - Sinai can’t hit a kick and will be left in games where his AB might come around in the clutch

lol +1. And if Siani is on the roster he is blocking another player from being on the team

It’s guys the org is giving a long leash to.

Keep in mind that may change.

But as they give these players a long leash, Siani makes sense.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on this. There is no scenario I can see where Siani makes sense. A couple all glove types are fine when your regular starting lineup can rake. That is very much not the case here.

Walker and Gorman do not belong on the OD roster. Simply, because they are not the best players available. Koperniak, Scott and Nootbar should be the starting outfield. Burleson and even Donovan need to either make the case or get traded this year. Both are soon going to be too expensive for Dewitt to warrant part time play. Arenado will be gone at some point once injuries hit other teams. I get the point on Siani in the sense he is the defensive sub that will not see 400 at bats. However, a guy like Koperniak has languished in AAA long enough. He deserves a legit shot. Liberatore starting is destined for another demotion to long relief. McGreevy should be given the chance at this point.

You’re getting yourself much too spun up on ST stats

sitting on the mlb bench is not a spot for a up and coming player. with burly that is 4 outfielders playing with Siani riding the pine and defensive sub very late. That is not a slot for a developing prospect , its a spot for rotting away utility guy etc.

We will see, if Siani plays alot, then it is an issue. He is a low ceiling guy who should not have resources wasted on him, playing time is a resource.

Barrero is not a developing prospect. He is a low floor/high ceiling lottery ticket that bats RH and plays + defense at SS and CF. Having him on the team over Siani keeps Noot out of CF(lower risk of injury) and Donnie off of SS.

We are not developing Jose Barrero!

Siani makes no sense. We are occupying a roster spot on a guy who cannot hit his weight to be a defensive replacement for one player(Walker). Scott and Noot do not need a defensive replacement.

+100!!
Yes Burly could factor in ahead of Siani but to me the 4th OF is Donovan.
He will play most nights rotating between corner OF/2B/3B/DH.

We can agree to disagree, but here is the scenario Siani makes sense: when there is currently NO playing time available on the MLB roster, coupled with suspect outfield defense.

You can be sure if the offense looks like a black hole, Siani will be optioned for X player, and X player will get a long look.

But for now, they want to give guys on the current roster a long look...

There are far too many players on this roster that simply cannot hit.

This team will get shutout and no-hit several times this season. It is a sad construct with zero thunder in the lineup.

Last year the offense WAS a black hole, yet Koperniak never sniffed the Ml roster.

Why do you believe this year will be different?

None whatsoever

This idiotic "I'd rather have him here for late inning defense over a backup SS or M. Koperniak" line of thinking is just plain stupid on a team in dire need of OFFENSE w/no true backup SS.

Acting like Siani is going to save multiple games w/his late inning defense is a stretch since he MAY, MAY make one or two catches a year, in the late innings that helps win a game.

He's NOT worth wasting a roster spot for that one or two MAYBE games when you could have a kid like Koperniak on the roster who can actually hit or Fermin as a backup SS who could spell Winn when he needs a day off.

Siani is a waste of a roster spot, shouldn't even be in MLB.
