At this point is has become Moronic putting Liberatore into the rotation! Stop it! Good grief!
He is a solid reliever!
Where is Gibson or Quintana or McGreevy?

Not sure if anybody is insisting, but I'm glad to see Libs get this SP opportunity. Maybe it works out, or maybe he's back in the BP by June, who knows, but either way it's good imo to see him get this opportunity, and hopefully McGreevy gets a SP opportunity very soon also.
It's a long grind of a season, one in which I think the Cards want more info to assess/clarify more of what they have.
Wouldn't it be great if by mid season, the Cards had all of Libs, McGreevy and Matthews gaining traction as MLB SP's?

If they are truly trying to see what they have it makes total sense as well as the 6 man rotation. If a starter gets hurt or is failing they will bring up McGreevy. I would say that this is Libs last shot at proving he can be a starter and he earned himself the opportunity with a nice ST.

I’d rather see Libby than sign Gibson. As for McGreevy he deserves a chance but unfortunately they still have Mikolas. Hopefully Libby breaks out, Mikolas ends up DFA’d and McGreevy or Mathews gets promoted to replace him. Libby doing well could really solidify our rotation going forward.

Worried this is going to knock us out of the pennant race?

Liberatore was once seen as a possible TOR guy. It's time to find out first whether he can be a No. 5 in MLB. This is a season to find out some things.

Despite the recent starter news, I think it might still be possible for ML to be a reliever again.
Also, his reliever numbers are pretty good, but it’s not like he’s Treavor Hoffman out there…

I won't tell you you're wrong, but I would point out:
1. He's only 25...still young for a starter.
2. A solid starter is more valuable than a solid middle innings reliever.
3. In a "reset" season, what do the Cards have to lose?
4. Mo still trying to justify the trade which brought him here.
Just some things to think about.

I see it as a plus.
Matz goes to the pen and acts as the 6th starter and long man. That makes a lot of sense. We know what Matz is, so why bother having him as one of the 5 starters. He's gone after this season if not in the middle of the season.
Libby showed good in spring training. So what not give him one more chance. He's still young enough to become a good starter. If not, will the bullpen will always be there.

Liberatore is a 3 inning pitcher. He does not have the repertoire to be a starter. That is not a bad thing. It is simply a fact. This is why the Rays traded him and why Mo needs to realize he is no genius putting him into the rotation. This is not hard. Doing the same thing over and over without different results is stupidity!

As usual, Liberatore will become a starter without fully being stretched out as a starter.
He threw less than 50 pitches in all but his last ST start of 71 pitches. He topped out at 4 IP.
Last minute decisions. Stretch out Matz to 78 then 85 pitches and 6 IP, then put Liberatore in the rotation and Matz in the pen.

It does seem they truly don't have a plan. Logic and reasoning can't see one.
Not just this matter either.

They are still playing the "Justification" game. By now, I felt that it was a moot point

Super Slo Mo.
The Cardinals do not have competition for jobs.
They do not make baseball-based decisions.
Mo dictates roles - and The Marmot simply follows the orders (which is the sole reason he was hired to begin with).
Several factors went into this decision - but identifying the best 26 players and the role that each would fill in order to put the most competitive team on the field was not considered.

I really don’t have a problem with it. Will it fail? Probably but this is a play the kids season. Give him a seasons worth of
Consistent Starts see what happens. I think the smart thing to do would have been trade fedde and start McGreevy and Liberatore. They have mishandled him badly so far now let him start
