Thanks to ABS, some Cardinals got shorter 2 inches

I noticed Nootbaar was listed at 6'1 on the mlb official webpage, and was for sure he was listed at 6'3 before.
Did some digging and found out they all got laser measured for the ABS system.
I used the Wayback Machine to look at the roster before Spring Training and found several players shrunk.
Fermin is actually an inch taller.
Not listed means they stayed the same.
Pages 6'1" to 5'11
Fermin 5'9" to 5'10"
Gorman 6'1" to 6'
Winn 5'11" to 5'9"
Burleson 6'2" to 6'
Donovan 6'1" to 5'11"
Nootbaar 6'3" to 6'1"
Siani 6'1" to 5'11"
Walker is a legit 6'6"
Even pro baseball players fudge their heights.

Thanks for posting great info. I never for a minute believed Burley was 6 ft 2.

Fascinating stuff. The things people don't think of when talking about the robotic strike zone.
2 inches seems to be the favored exaggeration.
I wonder what else they exaggerate at pickup bars.

Or were they wearing shoes in one, and socks on the other?

Height and weight numbers are always suspect. That's why NFL teams do their own measurements.
To this day, bbref lists John Kruk as 5-10, 170 pounds. He probably hasn't weighed 170 since middle school.

Maybe it was cold the day they did the laser...or they had been in the pool

Sad they couldn't list an accurate weight for Lynn from last year.
The reliever they used Sunday looked a lot like Lynn.

That's funny sh** but not surprising.
At first, I thought it would be players lying to try and take advantage of ABS. But independent strength and conditioning personnel, along with representatives from Southwest Research Institute, measure players' heights to determine the strike zone boundaries.
Baseball America's prospect site still lists the old heights and has Nootbar at 6'3" lol.

Would love to hear ownership, MO Ran, and Marmot word salad on how the discrepancies occurred.

Are you suggesting shrinkage?
Some were shortchanged?

Draft day/Physical day/Signing numbers. And that's how it is across the entire MLB, unless the player intentionally wants his changed...Walker grew, he asked for the Weight and Height to be changed.
Not a Mo or Marmot problem...it's a "History of MLB" problem...if it must be a problem at all
we have pitchers in the Minors that are still listed as 6'1", 140lbs...they were signed 7 years ago at 16 or 17 yo. The teams and MLB don't care about this
